The most challenging part will be the beginning, when you’re getting use to it and getting your basal rates all set up. After the first month or two, it gets considerably easier Like you, I had a lot of problems w/highs on MDI. The pump has helped that quite a bit.
I love my Ping!! I switched from the Minimed pump to the Animas and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t have any problems/complaints w/MM. My favorite thing about the Ping is the ability to bolus from the meter/remote. I hardly ever bolus from the pump. It’s so convienent to be able to check your bg and bolus all together on the same device. I also really like the color screen compared the MM. The only disadavantage that Animas has is that the CGM is not integrated yet (but it’s coming!). For me, I like having the seperate Dexcom unit not on my pump, so it’s no biggie for me. I demo’ed the MM CGM and didn’t care for it. I find Dex more accurate and comfortable. Plus w/the MM CGM, I couldn’t hear the alarms at night when the pump was under my blankets. That’s why I like having the seperate unit.
I’m considering Dexcom, so I’m glad to hear that you like it as a separate unit. I’ll definitely be watching for the integrated Animas/Dex, but I don’t want to put pumping on hold in order to wait for it when there are no guarantees on when it will be ready, what the features will be, etc. My idea is to start out with a known product that’s been on the market and then upgrade if and when it makes sense for me. I figure I’ll be getting a great pump either way!
I plan to get silver, but I might play around with some different skins or cases.
Sorry it took so long to answer - my computer crashed & I have been working on getting that back together. It is actually both. I have seen other people complain more about the remote than the pump, but I have a harder time with the pump than the remote when out in the sun.
my first pump was the omnipod…and i had a horrible experience…then i found the PING, pink to be exact, and i love it!! it’s the best decision i have ever made! i am a veteran of 19 years with Type I and it took a long time for me to finally “bite the bullet” and get pumping…it’s wonderful! my a1c has been the lowest it’s ever been, and i feel great! you do have your bad days, but the good ones out number the bad ones by far! if you have any questions for me, feel free to ask
i switched from the omnipod due to insurance issues (loved the tubeless pod though i had a few issues) and i LOVE the ping. it basically combined the discreetness of the pod (bolusing from the remote) and the benefits of the tubed pump (no waste). in the summer, i can wear dresses, clip my pump to my bra, and not worry about having to taking it out to bolus.
the omnipod was my first pump (after 16 years of MDI), and honestly, i was scared of the tube of the more traditional pumps. since switching, i’ve found that it’s not a problem at all (unless you’re dealing with temperature issues like someone said here, hehe). i even thrash around like a madwoman in my sleep and miraculously, the pump stays clipped on my short and the infusion site and tube are still there in the morning.
if you haven’t already, you can request a demo pump from the companies to see which one you like best. it’s a huge investment and commitment, so they’re willing to let you try before you buy. good luck!
Now that you’ve tried both Ping and Omnipod, do you have a preference? Were there any features on either pump that you found to be particularly useful?
I JUST GOT MY PING TODAY! I used an Animas 2020 for almost 3 years and just got my upgrade this afternoon! I’ve hooked it up and its working awesome so far. The only problem I’m having is that you can wirelessly connect the pump to your computer using ezmanager… but that seems to be more difficult that I originally anticipated… It’s really hard to connect your pump to the computer!! Maybe I’m just doing something wrong… But I just wanted to tell you that Animas is GREAT!
