I’m getting a lip piercing tomorrow.
My last a1c was somewhere in the 10’s.
So, my question is, even though my bloodsugars have been
running a bit high, should the piercing be fine? like healing wise…
if i take care of it, clean it when i’m supposed to and everything?
I feel its little risky. I mean i feel your body’s immunity would be significantly weaker because of high A1c.
But then at the same since piercing itself isn’t a major surgery, may be you can do it. Only suggestion if u go ahead, take care and be careful of infection after the piercing. If would give a 60% YES on the idea of getting pierced. But also currently how do u feel about other infections like cold or other infections. I mean do u get frequently affected??
Well, I’ve heard some stories from people on this forum that they were made to disclose how under control they were before they got any piercings of any kind, or tattoos… so I dunno… I remember back when I was 10.5%, and it was a nightmare for me… nothing healed well, no matter how well I took care of it… horrible yeast infections that never went away, either… No matter how hard I tried to keep on top of any of it… I just don’t think I’d risk it, I’m sorry to say… It’s really not anything you can do about it, no matter how hard you try, if your immune system is not up to it cus of the sugar being so high…
I have my eyebrow and naval and when I got my eyebrow done my a1c was around 10 as well. It’s not the greatest idea to get pierced when your sugars are high obviously because of infection.I was pretty lucky, but my immune system is pretty good too.I hardly ever get sick. I can’t even remember when I last had a cold. If you do decide to do it, make sure you don’t drink caffeine or anything like aspirin at least 24 hours ahead of time.it can make you sick. You may find your blood sugars go up even more after ward, because it does put some stress on your body. Being a lip piercing with high BS may be a bit more risky, because when your diabetes is not under control your mouth holds more sugar than someone with out diabetes, which is why we’re prone to dental problems, I would think poking a hole in your lip my leave you at a slightly higher risk for infection because of this. Most piercers prefer to know before hand if you are diabetic. I have done this and never been turned down, they seem to just be more stubborn about giving you info on possible infection and care . If you go to the National piercing association website you can find out more info there. Also never use things like neosporin on a fresh piercing because it can hold bacteria in the gel and lead to infection. Most places recommend salt water rinses and bactine.
