Allergy to Humalog

Hi,
Just couple of days ago I started with 1 unit of Humalog.
What I have observed is headaches and extreme thirst throughout the day after about 3-4 hours of taking insulin.

Does it go away after using homolog for certain time ( week, month)?
Should I ask my endo to switch to Novolog?

Highly appreciate any response on this.

Thanks

Extreme thirst is the classic symptom of blood sugar too high. What are your bg's?

Did you switch from some other medication to Humalog? 1 unit is a really tiny dose.

I was diagnosed with T2 7 months ago and I do feel dry mouth feeling when my bgs are up. My a1c was 4.9 and my fbg is 85 avg, PP is around 140.

I was not on any medication until now but I wanted to try the insulin when I got diagnosed as T1 about a month ago after positive GAD test.
This thrust which I felt was rather extreme and continuous. Much different than dry mouth after higher BGs.

I wanted to start with 1 unit to find out my sensitivity to insulin. Didn't want an hypo on my first try :-)

I'm curious as to why your doc. tested you for the GAD antibodies. I know that's usually not a normal action given the lower a1c, fbg, etc., but good for them in doing so. I can't really comment about humalog, but I can't take lantus. Burns like fire, makes me have cold sweats and made me pass out every time I took an injection. Try watching you bg's, but I would go ahead and mention something to your doc.

Initially I was having difficulty managing my BGs and I was mainly controlling them by lower carb intake ( 100gm /day ) and exercise ( walking after meals and gymn).
I was also feeling fatigued.
I am also gluten free( last 2 yrs) as I had allergy issues like excessive sneezing every month and continuous headaches daily. Going gluten free helped my sneezing and headaches.
This led me to believe that I may be celiac and since diabetes is also autoimmune like celiac I asked my doc if I may be type 1. He agreed to do GAD test at that point. But it took about 6 months to convince him.

@BriannaM, did you switch from lantus to something else.

What are your blood sugars though? Also I had an issue with humalog that involved headaches BUT not thirst or anything else and it was kinda funky on blood sugar control (not to mention the kwik pen was terrible) and I have wayyy better luck with novolog. Excessive thirst would suggest hyperglycemia/high blood sugar to me.

I was measuring my bg every 10 minutes and on day1 it was 180 at 20 mins but 100 at 2 hrs. On day2 it reached a max of 140 at 1 hr and returned to 100 at 2 hrs.

So on both days bg was not terribly high. I also checked at other times of the day when I felt very thirsty. The bg was in 80-100 range only.

The thirst actually started after 4 hours from the time I took insulin. It was consistent on both days.

Today I didn't take insulin and I am feeling fine, No headaches and excessive thirst.

Did you switch to Novolog due to the headaches ? Are there any side effects to Novologs you experience?

I switched from Lantus to Levemir. Instead of doing the one injection a day, I have to do 2 because it doesn't seem to last in my system as long. I generally use novolog for my short acting, but have tried humalog and apidra in the past. I didn't have any problems with those, just the lantus for some reason.
