An Interesting Experiment

http://diabeticallymindnumbing.blogspot.com/2011/10/interesting-experiment.html

I essentially just challenged my med school class to doing this. Since so many of them know about the blog, we’ll see if anyone comes up to me and steps up for the challenge. 100:1 noone does. The link to the article I’m referring to from kevinmd.com is on the blog. The title of the article is “A medical student becomes a diabetic and finds public disapproval.” It’s def worth a read for all the diabetics out there concerned about the stigma of diabetes and injecting in public.

I think this is a great idea. I have a bunch of blank training saline insulin pens. I have 2 extra meters and a few boxes of strips too. We can test 8 times per day together and roll with 6 shots. Anyone want to try it out? I know no one will take me up on this, because who would want to?

Great experiment. Hope someone rises to the challenge.

Excellent idea! Keep us posted as to whether you get anyone crazy/brave enough to try it.

They just need to invent a meter that throws out somewhat randomized results rather than real blood sugars (something like a modified UltraSmart that could be used to log carbs, etc.) so that the person could experience doing everything “right” and still getting a high or low number.

LOL love it Jen

that would be pretty cool, but it still couldn’t generate the fear, sickness and guilt that accompany the disease
