Animas Pump Dexcom CGMS Combo Update

I went to the Seattle ADA Diabetes Expo last Saturday and had great conversations with both the Dexcom and Animas representatives. An Animas Manager told me Animas hopes to submit the Animas/Dexcom Combination Pump/CGMS to the FDA late summer or early fall 2010, with a hopeful release, to us who have been waiting sooooo long, in early 2011, depending on how fast the FDA gives their approval.

I was also told anyone who is past the warranty on their current pump can upgrade now to the Animas Ping and receive a guarantee for any upgrades, including getting the Pump/CGMS Combo for out-of-pocket cost of $299.

The Dexcom Rep said the Dexcom 7 Plus, new sensor and transmitter are in use now and ready when the Animas Pump/Dexcom CGMS combination system is released.

Anyone wanting to hear what Dexcom has to say about their new joint product dates and Gen 4 dates should listen to the Dexcom earnings broadcast for May 5.

Hank, Thank you for the Dexcom site for additional info on both Animas and OmniPod and Dexcom integrated systems.

Your welcome Penny

Thank you hank and Penny. Oh my gosh, I feel like a diabetes nerd. I listened to the whole quarterly income report. Sounds like the date is unknown still. They will file “later this year” and the approval process takes 180 days, “give or take a few months.”

I agree date is still unknown but a bit more optimistic it’s coming. The first date I was given was late 2009, then early 2010. I’ve been using a “borrowed” pump for almost 2 years. Have been told I can get the Animas Ping with a guarantee upgrade for only $299 when then combination Animas Pump/Dexcom Sensor is released. I’m going to discuss this option with my endocrinologist, and get the upgrade guarantee information in writing, before I make my final decision.
