Another infusion site question

this morning I changed my set, it hurt going in, and that has not happened before, there was a little blood visable in cannula, but after I primed it went away, there is now a bruise around site and it is a little tender to touch, my sugars are fine, I am not sure i should change it or not, being that my sugars r ok and that it feels better now, any advice would be great, I have only been puming since January. I have to pay half the cost for my supplies so I dont want to waste them or change to early

I have only been pumping since Feb. myself. I have had the same problems at time. Experts have told me that Scar Tissue is casuing my discomfort. They tell me to move away from that site totally. They tell me to change it out right away.

here is a discussion we had about that. If you just see a little blood in the cannula, it is my experience that is okay as long as your bgs are good and there is no soreness. I think it’s always a good idea to change it if you feel that “nagging” feeling that you should. Testing a little bit more tonight wouldn’t hurt. Hope this helps, Lynn.

If the cannula hurts going and I mean burns then I will often change it right there and then. Typically you are hitting a blood vessel and that is why it hurts unless you have been pumping for years and have scar tissue built up. Jacky if you have only been pumping since Feb then I doubt you have scar tissue built up yet.
There are just some spots that don’t feel good at all. My only advice is listen to your body because if it burns and hurts going in and continues to hurt for the next minute or two it will not feel better in an hour. I sometimes will bring an extra set with me so that I can change it out at work when I want to test this theory out. I usually lose!!
