Any T1 diabetics wait beyond 40 weeks to go into labour naturally or even be induced?

Hi ladies, preparing for the arrival of baby #2. With my first I ended up with an induction at 40 weeks which resulted in c-section. My ob won't induce me again because it's only 16 months since my c-section. She wants to section at 38 weeks. I want to push her to 40 weeks but I'd rather just wait until I go into labour naturally, I really don't want another section. Has anyone here waited until 40+ weeks to go into labour naturally? I'm really desperate to manage a vbac this time!

I had a c section first, then was induced with #2, 20 mos later.

I see a high-risk ob doc(maternal fetal medicine) who has seen cases like you and I thousands of times. If your regular ob won’t do it, you might consider looking for a MFM provider who would be willing to induce you. As an “industry standard” they do not allow diabetic mothers to go beyond 38 weeks. Especially if you are measuring ahead/big.

I know #2 is the big decision maker, if you can have a vbac, your future deliveries can also be vaginal, but after 2 cesearians, the rest all have to be c-sections.

I have been where you are.

Your best chance is to go into labor on your own, because the contractions are much less intense then with pitocin.

With my induction, I had to have the following: internal monitor to detect the actual intensity of the contraction, not just the standard kind. I had to start my pitocin in a teeny, tiny dose, and bump it up slightly each hour, making sure the uterus didnt contract too strongly. (To prevent rupture of the former incision). You could ask your doc if she is willing to try this.

I hope all goes well!
