The old system for connecting a Dexcom G6 sensor with an Apple Watch went through the iPhone. With G7 sensors, you can connect the sensor directly to the Watch via Bluetooth…if you have a Series 6 watch or later. Imagine my surprise when my Series 5 watch was able to connect with my G7 sensors, presumably through my iPhone!
But it’s not usable. If I haven’t looked at the result on my Watch in some time (e.g., a couple hours), it takes several tens of second for the Watch to pull results and display them.
So first: is the Watch still connecting through the iPhone? I’m guessing that has to be the case.
Second: is that what’s causing the unreasonable delay in displaying results? Even though they used to come up instantly with the g6 sensors?
Third: is there a way to fix this? Almost certainly the only way is to buy a new Watch, which I’m not willing to do. It doesn’t take THAT long to look at the results on my pump directly, or even on my phone.
If anyone has any interesting info about this, I’d love to hear it. I’m not expecting to get any fixes: I’m just interested in what’s going on, and how it is I’m still able to get results on my Watch from the sensor, even when it’s too slow to use.

You can, but you’re not required to. You can still connect the old way through the phone. Can’t tell you why the G7 watch app updates less frequently than the G6 one did. My experience was that you had to touch the G6 display on the watch to get an updated number.
I hate the fact that dexcom ap is delayed. And it does it on the phone as well as the watch. You need to tap it to refresh which I really hate. I want to look at it and not wait or tap to get the results. The mobi ap refreshes immediately but I can’t get it on my watch. Grrr
