I've been having pain constantly and went to a pain specialist. He suggested aqua therapy to help with the pain. So I dont really go into a pool often but how do I go about with the CGM? So I dont know what to do with the sensor especially if I just changed the sensor
I just want to prepare myself so I know what to do on the first therapy day. Thanks!
Dexcom sensors are completely waterproof. Keep the receiver away from the water though because it is not waterproof. Once you are in the water however you will not get any signal unless the sensor is on your arm. Some people like to cover the sensor with something but I swim a lot and have never had a problem with the sensor coming off.
Thanks Clare. I may have my arms in the water so putting the sensor on my arm may not work. What do you cover it with so I can protect the sensor if it isn't change time?
Hey Amy, you don't need to cover the sensor with anything to protect it from water. But if you really felt the need, I believe some Tegaderm would probably work fine. I wore my last sensor for 28 days straight. I showered at least every day sometimes twice a day. I swam just about every other day. The only thing I did was use flexifix tape around the outside. Your arm doesn't need to be out of the water continuously for the dexcom to work. If your arm is within the range of the receiver and your arm is out of the water for the milisecond every 5 minutes that the receiver is searching for signal, you can still get some readings in the pool. I have had it on my arm and swam for an hour. Still got 8 out of 12 readings so a pretty good average.
I do have plenty of tegaderm. The flexfix that you mentioned, can i get that on amazon? I would feel better covering up as I dont know how many hours it will be. it just says 2-3 times a week.
