AT A crossroad between pumps!

My first pump was omni pod. I started pumping about 3, 4 years ago. I will never go back to shots. For the first few years i was very happy with my pump. I chose it because it didnt have tubing and it seemed easier to hide. But this past year or so i have been very UNHAPPY WITH MY OMNI POd! I would run out of pods before my next shipment because they would always break!!! Sometime when i called them in to omni they would tell me it broke because i wasnt putting it on correctly but that didnt make sense cuz i didnt have a problem for my first 2 years! The pods would break or even my pdm would malfunction! It always seemed to be at the worst times too such as when i wasnt home or on my way somehwere! I was finally fed up! I started looking into the medtronic pumps…When i lost my pdm at a restaurant and was unable to get a new pdm for free i decided to finally try the medronic pump. I only had it on for three days but i was sooo unhappy! Its like when cordless phones came out…no one wants a phone with a cord after that! I thought it would be worth having if my insurance would pay for the glucose monitoring sensor but im not sure if that will happen or not. So anyway! Im staring at my box of medronic supplies and my new medronic pump im debating on sending it back after only three days of wearing it. Today i am using my old PDM from omni pod, the screen is half broken but still works. I had to put a pod on because on my 3rd day of the medronic pump i was walking up my stairs and caught the tubing on the railing and it ripped out! I had so much trouble trying to hook myself back up to it and fill the canula that i just put a pod on. IM not sure what to do! should i stay with medronic hoping that it wont break as much even tho for the first time ever it makes me feel soooo selfconcious of being a diabetic, and being so worried that it is gonna get ripped out or wet. Someone give me some advice! ALSO has anyone heard about a new pump that is similar to omni pod (being wireless) that is supposed to come out?

Roche is working on the Solo pump (a patch pump) and getting it approved here but I wouldnt hold my breath.
There are lots of new patch pumps coming out, but you never know exactly when.
One is pretty far along, and this minute I dont remember the name.
How much can you mess with your insurance?
Mine would lock me in four years and never consider changing things until after that.
You are proving my point as to why people need extra sets, but maybe you might want to give the MM a chance?
Tubing takes getting used to, but it isnt hopeless…

I like my MiniMed 722 (the older model…) a lot and am very pleased with it. When I was “shopping” I noted people commenting about those “insertion problems” (???) with the Omnipods, finding out later that it wasn’t pumping when their BG got high, etc. and I wasn’t interested in dealing with that. A lot of people love Omnipods but I also can see where the remote gizmo would be easy to lose or destroy, as has happened to you?

My Medtronic has blown up once in 3.5 years and was covered under warranty so they sent me a new one. It survived a bicycle crash that busted two teeth, my lip and tore my chin up a bit. I also fell on it in Tae Kwon Do classes (we also did throws, which were more like Hapkido than TKD but are useful for self-defense…) and a few other things. When it broke, I’d run 10 miles when it was 87 out and about 80% humidity and I was drenched. The MM phone person didn’t think that it would have caused it to blow up but you never know? The tube doesn’t bother me at all. It would bother me having an extra gizmo to lug around. I have the MM CGM too and like the “one unit” rig, despite the apparent general preference the community seems to have for the Dexcom/Ping combo or Dexcom/ Omnipods.

Sorry you are having so much trouble, it’s a real dilemma. Once something becomes unsatisfactory, it’s hard to accept. It’s either a 4 year lock with reliable tubing or pod failure aggro until the Solo launches. But who knows if the Solo will launch next year like they say and if it will prove more reliable. It won’t be waterproof, so… As a current pumper, they might offer you a deal to switch. Then again your job/insurance might change in the near future and you can get another pump anyway. I would go crazy deciding!

The insulin part of the Solo comes off, so you can use the Solo in hot tubs etc. unlike Omnipod.

Yes carrying an extra gizmo around is annoying. I have lost it a million times in the couch lol and have had it stollen and broken but at the same time being a young female that enjoys dressing up…i find the tubing a big problem :frowning:

I think im going to stick it out with the omnipod…while hoping and praying that the new pumps that are coming out ,the solo and also the jewel pump, come out soon and are more reliable;

For what it’s worth, I’ve been very happy with my Minimed Revel. I got a sample pod and found that it was too large to hide under clothing. And it was beside the point because my endo won’t work with an Omnipod. She feels that they are just too prone to problems. Tubing aside, I’ve found it far easier to conceal my Revel pump under my clothes (mostly down my bra or in pockets). One thing I do a lot is cut small holes in my pockets and then run the tubing through that. Works quite well, especially if I’m wearing a dress that has little pockets in it. I even sewed a small pocket into one dress and you can’t even tell it’s there!

Personally, I don’t think you should be using a half-broken PDM. I would be really worried that something would malfunction and cause an incorrect delivery of insulin.

The tubing did take a bit of getting used to when I started back on the pump again this year. I usually tuck my tubing down my pants and that solves the issue of it getting caught on stuff. But I really just don’t have that issue. I wear lots of girlie clothes and while using a pump does require a bit of thinking ahead when buying clothes, it really hasn’t been too bad.

I have the MM Revel too. It was my first pump. I always tuck the tubing into my pants. Have been pumping for over a year and have yet to pull out a site because the tubing got caught on something. I love my MM. I dont wear a lot of dresses but when I do, I hide he pump in my bra and I have also bought a thigh cuff from T and J designs and haven’t had an issue.

I wear my Mm pump in my padded ( lol) bra and have not had any problems when I wear dresses and 'girlie"clothes. No one ever knows it is there . I wear it clipped to a skirt, top of pants, on a belt loop, or in a pants pocket with the tubing tucked in. People really do not pay that much attention to it; they have their own concerns. Yet you are very young and may be more self-conscious.than I am. I figure if they stare at me it must be because they like what they see. And who cares if they don’t, I DO LIKE WHAT I SEE!!!
Like jennifer, I have been pumping for quite a while, for me over 8 years, and I have only pulled out an infusion set due to the tubing being caught twice… I was at home and changed it out quickly… That really does not happen often at all if you have it the tubing tucked in. I say go with the MM and leave the defective PDM from Omni pod alone. Your insurance will probably not pay for anything else this soon unless you can show, which is unlikely, that the MM is causing you health rather than convenience problems.
