Well, what can I say that everyone here hasn’t been through themselves. I was diagnosed with Type 2 about a year ago in Feb 2008. When I was diagnosed I was shocked to say the least. I went in with foot pain which turned out to be neuropathy. To find out my pain was due to not being diagnosed early enough with diabetes. We figure I have had Type 2 diabetes for about 8 years. I take Metformin (850mg 2xday) and neurontin 600mg 3xday)and now lisinopril (5mg)to protect my kidneys from any further damage. I say further because I just found out that my kidneys have take a shot too.I take neurontin and Lyrica for my neuropathy. To date I have lost about 50 lbs and I want to loose another 50 by September… My birthday month. So wish me luck. If anyone wants to chatt with me about Diabetes or Neuropathy just send a comment.
Thanks and Good luck to all of you.
Cindy
Thank you for sharing your story:) Congrat’s on shedding 50 pounds and I wish you much success with shedding another 50 lbs!
Wow! 50 lbs. Good job. Good luck in getting to your birthday goal…sounds as though you know you can do it.
I love to hear these types of stories.
CONGRATS, Cindy! I lost 80 lbs 7 years ago, only to gain it all back again. So now, after myself going on Lisinopril for my HBP and my kidneys, Zocor for my cholesterol, and Byetta for the diabetes in addition to the Metformin, I’m gonna try and get my lifestyle back again!
What kind of foot pain was your neuropathy indicative of? I have tingling, and heel pain from plantar fascitis, but no foot pain yet.
The pain I can hardly describe, it tingles stings and sometimes is much like electric shock treatment. My toes curl as if to cramp. And on bad days all of the above followed by numbness and the feeling of walking on pins and needles. Somtimes even a rocky feeling… like walking on little pebbles. It really stinks. But I do take neurontin that helps… but I am afraid that I am going to have to up that dosage here pretty soon. 600 mg 3xday isn’t quite doing it anymore. And I hate that. As soon as they up my Neurontin I feel very OUT OF SORTS for a while. A week or so. But I guess we will just wait and see. I go back to my Dr on the 29th of this month. We shall she what she says then. I will let you know.
Cindy, congrats on losing the 50 lbs. I have a bunch to lose as well. Just started on a good diet as I was diagnosed in Dec. I take a shot of 30 units at bedtime. Pills weren’t doing much for me. Hope I have better control now. We will see. Yes the exercise thing is a problem and I do do things that I can sit and do but I find that when I can walk it really helps everything. I will keep on plugging along and hope that it all works in time. You have a lovely family Cindy. I too have a son 6’5" and it is like feeding a herd of bulls. He has now grad. from college and on his own. Now he feeds himself.LOL…
