Last night I was changing my dex site and I decided to try to put in on my arm since I had never done that and my legs are feeling a bit raw from pump and dex sites. When my husband inserted the plunger into my arm it immediatley filled with blood. Now this has happened before but it was kindof all over the place, not to the point where my dex wasn't sitcking ot my arm but it was a significant amount of blood. I had aweful readings all night telling me i'm low when i'm not then this morning it said I was 192 but in face I was 92.
Just wondering if this has happened to anyone? Looking for advice on wheather to pull the site or not?
Blood is bad news. Blood poisons the sensor, which leads to bad readings. I replaced a 'bad' sensor last week after using it for only a couple of days. Sure enough, I could see the dried blood at the insertion site. I would pull this sensor. It is not likely to get better.
I saw a fair bit of blood after my first G4 sensor insertion. The first 24 hours or so, I got readings that were a bit all over the place. After calling Dexcom, I tried doing 3 calibrations 10-15 minutes apart. After that, the readings started to be a lot more accurate. Sensor's still in and working great.
I had a similar incident happen to me on my stomach. I had to remove it and install a new sensor. My Doctor said that I may have hit a vein that was close to surface. It was a mess and hurt a lot. I have never had another incident though. I sometimes put my pod on my arm but never my sensor because I think the insertion needle goes deeper with the sensor. It feels that way anyway. The other problem is that some areas don't seem to have enough fat and you are hitting muscle.
Thanks everyone for your feedback! It's always so helpful to hear from other PWD's. I ended up leaving my sensor in for 6 days and pulling it because it had gotten to itchy to wear all the time.
