Blood after Dexcom Insertion?

Hello,

I’ve been using the Dexcom for a couple months and have generally enjoyed it. Tonight I inserted sensor on my right arm (same place as several previous insertions with 0 problems) but had a little bit of blood after insertion.

I remember my Rep saying that it should not cause a problem, but ironically the first sensor I put in with my Rep DID cause a problem. What are your experiences with sensors when there is blood at insertion?
Thanks!

I share your Rep view, no problem whatsoever even if you see some blood after insertion.

Ciao, Luca

Blood is not a problem in and of itself. Caleb has had several bleeders and even a gusher. The only problem is if there is pain associated with it. Otherwise - give it a go!

There was SOME pain associated with it. Just a sting, but it went away shortly after and hasn’t hurt since. I let the sensor settle in over night and just started it about an hour ago. It now is showing “???” after hour 1 of the 2 hour startup period…

Here’s an update:

I decided to restart the sensor after it gave ??? for about 1 hour. The next cycle went fine and after the 2 hour start up I was able to calibrate. This was about 2 hours ago and so far has been reading accurately with no problems.

There is some “pain” at the site. If I put pressure on the site it does feel sore, however if I am not touching it then I have no pain whatsoever. I’ve never had any pain after insertion before so this is the first time. However, the readings are good and its working (like I said, only 2 hours in) so I will just chalk the pain up to the blood at insertion. I must have sliced through some pretty sensitive skin.
