Blood work

I had bloodwork and urinalysis and I am not a happy camper, should I be worried?

MCH 26 Range 27-34
MCHC 31.4 Range 32-36
RDW 15.4 Range 11.7 - 15

Microalbumin U random 29.9 Range 0.0-17.0
Microalb/creat ratio 20.4 Range 0-30.0

I’m not sure about that stuff. All I look at are A1C, cholesterol & BP.

You might be anemic or have low B values. Did they test that? Here is a good site that explains some of those: You have protein in your urine, but it is not real high. There are a lot of things that can cause that - you exercised the evening before the test being one. Mine is really high & has been for years. I don’t have kidney issues.

?

I know there’s a bunch of numbers there but the other ones are always normal. I guess most of those have been sort of normal these days too but, given that I’m 44 and like beer and junk food, I’m watching them closely!

Karen’s asking about her labs.

I was just saying that’s all I look at on my labs and giving her thread a friendly bump up?

The MCH and MCHC are so close to the lower end of the normal range that they might not be worth worrying about. And the RDW is, again, only a tad high. They could be due to lab error, like not calibrating the machines properly. Keep the report, and see where they go next time. If they show a trend toward increasing abnormality, then it’s time to question the doc, who may not compare these results with whatever comes up next time. But don’t worry before it’s absolutely necessary.

The microalbumin is high, and it might be wise to discuss this with your doc. It might be a very early sign of kidney disease, but might also be reversible. I don’t really know, and now’s the time to research it, so that you can ask your doc the right questions.

Good luck, and I hope it turns out to be nothing!

I pretty much agree with Kelly and Natalie. The MCH and MCHC are mildly depressed, often a sign of anemia, but mild. Kelly is right, it may simply be needing a vitamin B supplement or folic acid. Lots of women are slightly anemic. I eat lots of meat, so I am like anti-anemic. The microalbmumin (note the “micro” meaning small) is a very sensitive test for protein spillage. The microalbumin/creatinine ratio is a somewhat duplicative measure of whether you are starting to have kidney problems, but in this case your reading is actually “normal.” Sometimes, we just dump a little protein. Some people dump it all the time, some dump it occaisionally and sometimes certain things cause us to dump it. If I exercise before a urine test, I will pass protein. The only way to actually “confirm” you have any early stage kidney problems is to do the test one or more times.

So, let me reassure you. You have some things to look into, but this is not something to keep you awake all night. Check with your doctor, see what he thinks, maybe a few more tests for B-12 and some supplements. He may just tell you to come back in 3-6 months for another urine test.

Thank you everyone, I looked at my tests over the last few years and all labs normal, until now, but my microalbumin has been high last few years, put my protein in urine is not out of whack.

I see the endo next week and my PCP on 11/17 and she is brilliant, I am sure she will recommend some sort of supplement. As far as the microalbumin, she might bump my Ace Inhibitor.

Today I was gonna really try to not have any high bloodsugars as my A1C is still high at 7.0, and what do you know I have a freaking bent cannula, in high 300’s all afternoon and I feel like I am suffocating with this high for this long, usually when I am high I get stuck at 200, damn disease.
