Byrum Healthcare & Omnipod test strips

Does any one else get the FreeStyle test strips from Byrum along with the pods? If so how did you get them to send the FreeStyle test strips not the FreeStyle Lite?

On my first order with them (new to Byrum due to insurance change) I received the new PDM and pods and the FreeStyle Lite strips. I was on the phone with them for over an hour and they only show that the FreeStyle Lite are compatible with the Freestyle meters. I will call them today to give them the SKU numbers for the standard FreeStyle strips.

If you order from them did you have this same issue?

Vent: I hate changing insurance.........

Jim, when I got my first order it also came with the freestyle lite, I called them and they did not know why they were sent out. I went to the pharmacist and had them changed over, they look very much alike the new standard freestyle and the freestyle lite, they both have the butterfly on the strips. I order right from the company however. I am in Canada, We Canucks do not seem to have the same issues that the Americans do. I have been on the phone under 5min with them to order new pods, the only problem I have had is calling tech last week and they still have not called back, good thing I figured it out myself. sorry back to the issue. I get my strips from the pharmacist so all they did was change the prescription from freestyle lite to the standard freestyle. Do you always get the strips with your order? or do you go to the pharmacist to get them?

Good luck there are great people on here that could probably answer to your delima.

No need to worry. The lite strips work just fine. Insulet has only completed FDA requirements on the regular strips and not the lite so they can't say the lite strips work. They do.

I used to get the pods directly from Insulet and the strips through Express Scrips (Insuarance mail order pharmacy). Had no issues getting the correct test strips from them.
Our company was bought so insurance changed. The new company does not have a contract with Insulet so I had to go to Byrum. I also determined that if I get the test strips with the pods it counts as durable medical equipment and the cost was better than if I treat it as a prescription.

I will see what happens when I call them today to see if I can get them swapped.

Scott, I'm not sure they are supposed to be interchangeable. Even on Abbott's site they do not show the lite version compatible with either of the flash or freedom meters. So that there are no issues I would prefer to get the correct strips.

I'm surprised that Insulet did not change the meter so it would use the lite strips when the changed to the new PDM. It;s tough to find these strips in a pinch.

Thanks

Jim - understand your hesitation completely, but I too used the Freestyle Lite for awhile (Use Verio IQ meter now) with absolutely no problems.

Not sure if that will change your mind, but wanted to let you know.

I just got off the phone with a different support specialist. This guy knew what he was doing and immediately found the correct code for the standard FreeStyle strips and is sending the correct strips and a postage paid return label to send the Lite ones back. Took 10 minutes. Its nice when you find the right person.

For anyone interested the Byrum code for a box of 50 FreeStyle strips is TH124001Z

Jim, I second these other guys' advice. I was really wary of using the regular and lite strips interchangeably, but I did side-by-side tests for a while and there's never been a discrepancy.

good to hear.

Thanks for the input. Good to know that if I can't get my hands on the regular that the Lites can be used
