Has anyone used carbquik yet? It say it has a net carb of just 2 grams since our of the 16 carbs 14 are insoluble fiber. If you have used it, how did you measure carb count?
I asked my DR. about these net carb things and he said only focus on the 16 carbs not net carbs of 2. He said count it as 16. And my nutritionist said the same thing.
and that has worked out good? My daughter is only taking 1 unit of insulin per 25 carbs. So I was concerned we would over dose her?
Different carbs can be digested differently so it one of those things that you just have to play around with. For some folks, net carbs seem to be the impact and for others its gross carbs. personally i haven’t tried the carbquik yet, but it is on my list since even the gross carbs are considerably less than similar product on the market for baking mixes.
Since there is a bigger risk going low then high, the first time out the shoot i would dose on the low side and see how she handles it. if she sky rickets then treat and know the next time to bolus for the gross carbs There never is an easy answer.
Most people will find that carbs from fiber have little effect on blood sugar. But really everyone is different. Some advisors sources will recommend that you either count, don’t count, or count a fraction of carbs from fiber. The best judge is your meter. My recommendation is to just experiment.
Thanks for the replies…This is hard! It is crazy how the public has this misunderstanding that diabetes is cured because all you have to do is take insulin. My daughter is 6 years old and was diagnosed just 3 months ago.
I’m so sorry to hear that… Does anyone else in the family have type 1. How was she diagnosed? routine bloodwork or did she get sick. My daughter is 1 and I am paranoid about her getting diabetes.
My wife was suspicious, as my daughter started getting headaches and going the bathroom at night frequently. No one else has it in the family…we have some who have type 2. I know they have not figured out what really causes Type 1, but it’s a good guess there is some level of genetics at play. I don’t think having it will predispose their children having it.
I also bought some of that Carbalose Flour. We will see if it works.
I used to use it, before I found I am slightly allergic to wheat. It seems to be really low carb but it doesn’t taste or cook quite the same as regular flour. I now like to use almond flour, which has 24g carbs per cup as compared to wheat flour which has 95g/cup.
