Yes, I count my carbs… Right now, I eat something like 15-40-30… Four about 85 g of carbs a day, or so. Sometimes less… Sometimes a little more. Never more than 100, or I spike insanely. I am a Type 2, with diet and exercise only.

I count. I try for about no more than 250 a day. T1 on a pump. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

i count carbs but my rates vary a lot… i can have 120 one day and 60 the next…

I count my carbs too. Each meal I eat between 45-60 grams of carbs a day.I’m a type 1 fyi and working on getting myself on that pump. If I have forgotten my insulin at home, I eat 15-20 per meal until I am at home.

get the pump!! its greatttt you will love it… i know you wont love have something attatched to you as we all dont but the control is way better… you dont have to inject… and youd be surprised how much more you can eat…

When I first went on the pump and started counting carbs - on sliding scale before that :frowning: -my dietician told me…200 per day, 50 per meal, 50 for snacks. Well, first of all, I’m a recovering compulsive overeater, and back in those days, I probably ate 200 just at night. Thank god those days are behind me.

But recently I started trying to lower my overall carb intake to under 175. I don’t have a regular schedule or eat the same things frequently, except for breakfast, so my carb intake varies from day to day, but some days are as low as 125 g, and rarely is it over 175 and I discovered something great…I’m losing weight! Hooray! For the first time in a long time, I’m losing weight at a normal rate. Instead of taking a month to lose one pound, I’m able to lose a pound or two a week (unless I upped my carbs that week.)

I’m an insulin-dependent either T2 or LADA, on a pump.

I’m Type 1 & count carbs. 30-35 per day, with the fewest for breakfast since that’s when there’s the most carb sensitivity/ insulin resistance.

They have me on 75 carbs a meal, which is a pain to get I usually get in around 50. But I tend to do a 4th meal working 3rd shift in a physical environment. I also adjust my insulin to go with meals if I am eating carb heavy I will take a unit or 2 extra and when the diet has been bad I might pop an extra mini shot. I need to get the endo to put me on a official sliding scale< just have been taking advice from a few friends who have good tight control. My regiment seems to be working good no super lows unless I wait to long to eat or don’t eat enough. I will break up my carbs so I can snack but try not to snack unless I’m starving.

Lewis,

Forget sliding scale. It’s outdated & doesn’t work well. Better to count carbs so that you can match insulin to meals. You’re recently diagnosed & best to start out the right way. You’ll learn your insulin:carb ratio (I:C), insulin sensitivity factor (ISF–how much 1 unit of insulin will lower BG to correct highs) & how much basal insulin to take. You’ll also be told how to correct lows. Sounds overwhelming, but it’s not near as complicated as it sounds.

Using Insulin by John Walsh is a great book. Think Like a Pacreas is another must have book.

Still learning on a lot of stuff, Have been more trying to count carbs and match my insulin to the carbs of my meal. Only extra shot has been the one night after 3 beers and was at 225, think I was 118 the next morning. Control has been pretty good so far highest bs 258 lowest bs 54. Most often in the 90-150 range. My standard dose I use is 2 units up from the hospital but it took them days to get me below 200. I just wish I could get into the endo sooner have to wait till nov 3.

Good for you! I had to wait months also. You might see if your doc will refer you to a CDE. Would probably a lot easier to get an appt. They’re the ones who spend time helping with doses.

They have me meeting one the same day. See the diet specialist this week. Just glad I grew up around a few t-1s or I would be lost

Was hoping that might be a plan. Really is a good thing you know other T1s. I was a lost lamb for months. Frustrated & in tears.
