New computer here. Treated myself this Christmas. Been all over the 'net and can't find compatible stuff for Carelink and Win 7. Is this right? My son is the IT guru, so where can I get what I need to download my numbers? Any help? Thanks........
Hi it IS compatabile with win 7 but its really weird how u install your drivers. What you have to do is go to the windos start button on the lower left of your screen, click on All Programs, then RIGHT click Internet Explorer ---Run as administrator.
Once IE opens up, go to the carelink site and set up your account, it should work just fine. After your account is set up, you can get onto Internet Explorer the usual way.
Hi i agree with christy but you can use any browswer available and you must have java inslaed on your computer the java version should be same version as your operation system, that is win 7 32 bit your java version should be 32 bit if you have win7 64 bit your java version should be 64 bit to.
Thanks for your reply and I found the answer. Carelink and Win7 are compatible. It's just that my new computer is 64 bit and NOT compatible with my USB dongle. In order to use Carelink I must buy a cable to link to my computer. I guess this means my sensor data is lost for now. Perhaps Medtronic will set up a driver for the darn thing to work. Oh well.
What USB Dongle are you trying to use? Carelink is compatible with Windows 7, but the meter also has to be compatible for it to download properly.
Also, which version of Windows 7 are you running on your laptop? I'm going to guess Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
Im thinking of getting a MAC Im so over windows and PC and the shoddy stuff they put out. Long story short, is CareLink compatable with Mac, or am I going to have to hold onto my PC just to use my Carelink with?
I think the latest version of CareLink is compatible with the Mac.
That’s strange. I’m running Vista 64 bit and the USB dongle works fine. Maybe Win 7 64 bit isn’t supported but Vista 64 bit is?
The problem with 64 bit Windows is usually the USB driver, not the actual software. Considering the proliferation of 64 bit computers it's surprising that the various companies are not more on top of this situation.
If you are running Windows 7 Professional or higher sometimes you can get things to work by using XP mode(an XP virtual machine) that is often pre installed to provide compatibility with older software. Unfortunately, this can get a little geeky and is not a realistic solution for many folks. It does no good if you are running Home Edition.
Spoke with Medtronic tech support today for 20 minutes and got it figured out. Seems Win7 and Carelink are compatible. I'm running a new computer with a 64 bit operating system. The issue is that with this new computer has 3.0 USB ports and not the 2.0 USB ports that are in more common use. Medtronic does not have software available for the newest USB 3.0 ports. Oh well, I'm stuck. The only way to download data is by using one of my old computers that still has USB 2.0. Of course, Medtronic doesn't know when there will be an upgrade to the latest in technology. I'm disappointed, but their customer service and tech support people were great.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for the update.
Carelink does work on my laptop. I just upload the data and then pick it up on the new computer. Problem solved. Maybe Medtronic will get the USB 3.0 issue fixed in time for USB 4.0. Ha.
