CGM Reimbursement in Europe?

Hey all,

I’m new to this forum/website and would love some help about CGM coverage. My endo helped me obtain a Navigator in the US and I had to fight with my insurance to get it covered. My job is re-locating me to Europe and I plan on staying in London for quite some time. I’m looking for reimbursement information and have yet to come across anything helpful. I know Europe doesn’t have private insurance and I’m stuck right now because the expenses would be too high for me to cover alone. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Peter

Hi Peter,

I don’t know about the UK, but I live in Hungary and the national insurance here does not cover CGMS yet. But I do have coverage for pump and pump supplies.

Can you keep your US insurance when you move to the UK? Any chance that your employer would allow that?

Perhaps you could also post your question in the UK group.

Here is a blog post by someone who got CGMS funding in the UK. It sounds like it was a struggle, but you could get in touch with her for advice. I just noticed that she is also a TuDiabetes member. Here is her page.

Thank you so much Kristin, the info is really helpful. I can’t keep my US insurance which stinks. Hopefully my CGM costs will be reimbursed through some source.

I’ll look into the UK group, but really…thanks so much! I feel welcomed!
