Hi Everyone- I got my Omni pod last week and I love it!! I noticed that I have to change my pod ever other day. My IC is 1:3, so I have to take a lot of insulin at meal time. I was wondering if anyone else has to change every other day as well.
I do not wear a pod but I do have to change my infusion set out every 2 days because I am allergic to the adhesive. I do not know how long you have been on the pods but I have noticed the longer I am on a pump the less insulin I am using. Pre-pump I used over 150 units a day now I am using 80-100 units a day. Good luck with your pods.
I chose the animas ping and it was a good thing because I found out at the time I would have had to change my pod every day because I was using 200 units a day. The cost would have been extreme for me. Now I am using U500 and change every 2-3 days. I have great control of my sugars now. My basal rates was 5 units every hour and 1:4 so I know what you mean because it needed to be changed to 1:3 at the time right before I changed to U500. U500 has been such a great thing for me, if you had it you would only have to change every 3 days. It sounds like you may be a good candidate for it. I would talk to your DR.
I have been on the pump for a week now. I was taking pretty much the same insulin as u pre pump. I still am taking that much now, but I just started the pump. So I think in time I will be using less I think. I am glad i am not the only one who uses a lot of insulin.
I will ask him next month when I see him for my 3 month. I wonder if its expensive? I dont have perscription coverage, but I work at a doctors office and get my Humalog samples. Do they sample U500?
You know I don’t know if they do or not. But yeah it is expensive. It is like $300 a bottle. One bottle lasts a month though. But it is worth a try.
Yes, they do And if you have a documented need for the U500 Insurance will cover it for you
I, like Cathy, pump U-500 Humalog
Yeah this is great news. I was hoping they had samples of it. Yeah my insurance covers mine on the first bottle. Thank goodness I only use one a month. If it did not I would pay the $300 a month. Which I totally can’t afford right now.
