Clinistix and Diastix

Anyone use clinistix or diastix to test their food or drinks for glucose?? If so, do you dip yours or put it in your mouth and spit it out onto your test strips..?

I just bought some clinistix after accidently being given regular Dr.Pepper instead of Diet Dr.Pepper...only drank about 1/4 of it and my BG was almost 400 ;)

i cant give any feedback on this but that sounds like a really good idea… i usually shy away from any fountain drink from where ever for fear of that happening id like to know about this to… Thanks for the idea LiL MaMa

You can use your meter & strips. Just put a drop of whatever food or drink on the strip. It will read HI.

I dip mine. I use it all the time, starting with the time I got a soft drink with the same results as yours.

Where do you get them from? I was looking for them and couldn’t find them in the store.

Really?? Never thought of that…does it really work!?

And its cool to just put the strip into your drink?? Thought it was but wasn’t sure if there was anything on the strip that you wouldn’t want getting into your drink. I’ve just been taking my straw and dropping some of my drink onto the strip.

I went to Wal-mart and they said they did not sell them, I found mine at CVS Bayer brand Clinistix they were $12 for 50.

Yes:) It works.

Wish I had done that earlier this week. There’s usually 100% juice, no sugar added in the house, however someone brought home juice drink loaded with cane sugar and I didn’t notice the label. As for eating out I usually check with my meter if I have doubts about my drink.

I haven’t put strips into a drink. I’ve used strips to test drinks the same way they test blood.

Interesting…I actually got a diet coke tonight at our fav. Mexican restaurant that we go to about once a week…it tasted diet but I dipped the stick just to see what would happened and it showed medium amounts of sugar, tried it twice!! So I asked for water instead. I’m a huge fountain drink fan but am starting to think I should stick to bottled and canned from now on.

i dont think testing with a meter works either so weve got to find another way… there has to be some way!

Great article, thanks for sharing!

Just a heads up for all of you…I have gotten four drinks this past week all from different places where I actually WATCHED them pour it from the diet fountain and tested it with a clinistix strip and it showed positive for sugar… Makes me wonder how many of my random high BG are actually from fountain drinks. I will DEF test every single drink from now on or just stick to canned/bottled.

yea unfortunatly id say stick to bottled or canned soda… even if it is diet they might have used regular soda in there before that and lord knows nobody is gonna go threw the trouble of really cleaning the unit… good old america land of the lazy and none caring… did you find the article helpful?

Yeah I did thanks! And that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking!!

They don’t always fill the same ‘compartment’ of the fountain machine with the Diet sodas, thus there can be residual sugar leaking into the Diet. I was once given a Diet Pepsi (that I watched the waitress get from the Diet button) which shot me up over 600. I was testing drinks with my meter for a while after that. I found that things like reg. soda made my meter read HI, anything truly sugar-free like water made my meter read Error 3, and anything with small amounts of sugar would read an actual number.

Sounds like what happened to me… I’ve learned my lesson.
