Cold Medicine

I have a whopping summer cold and have been having problems finding some cold medication that doesn't cause my BG levels to go up a lot. Has anyone found something that works well on the cold without causing a big increase in your BG level?

Dancer,
As far as symptoms during a cold, I haven't found a whole lot that doesn't spike my levels (I just adjust accordingly).
However, I've found that the moment I suspect a cold (from the moment I get a sore throat), I overdo the vitamin C and 2 days later - no problems. In fact... have only had a cold twice in the last 5 years (the times I DIDN'T do the vit. C). Diabetics require twice as much daily vitamin C as the average person (or so my Dr. tells me). Walmart & other stores carry Emergen-C brand mix in several flavors (mix with water = fizz drink) that also provide alot of other vitiamins/minerals or you can just take 500mg vitamin pills.
Hope that helps.
And... as our grandmothers used to say: LOTS of clear liquids and rest. :-)

I agree with the lots of clear liquids and rest, I actually put my sweats on and an extra blanket and try to sweat it out as much as possible, drink lots of soup and rely on sugar free "fishermen friends" for my throat and "buckleys" for anything else, the pharmacist also recommended a simple saline solution for helping my stuffy nose.

None of it makes my sugar spike, except if i'm to out of it to bolus for the soup...
