Confused!

I’ve been a diabetic since I was 4 years old, and I’m 15 now. I was to young to remember ever NOT being diabetic, and I’m so used to it now. I can tell when I’m high, or when I’m low, very well. But lately (the past couple weeks, maybe?) I’ve been feeling like I’m really high, but when I check my sugar, I’m in the perfect range! It’s really screwing with my head, and wasting my test strips. Does someone know why this could be happening???

unfortunatly you will and probably have started to lose the able to predict feeling… i used to say it would never happen to me either but it did :o(

Hi Kristin,

I wonder if something else could be causing symptoms that would feel like being high without that being the cause? Thyroid issues could cause lethargy, or just being dehydrated often makes me feel really high even when I’m not. If it keeps up, it might mean a trip to the ol’ Dr. to see if something else might be wrong.

At least it’s not the other way around where you feel fine but are sky-high…

ohh and if your in the perfect range you should look into getting a CGM… id suggest Dexcom

no this sounds common i used to go no where with a meter cause i could tell if i was low or high but no i think im low/high and its the opposite or normal… after a while you lose the ability to be able to tell if your high or low

Same thing going on here. I feel really dehydrated even if I drink a lot of water and have good BGs for a long time. Mornings are the worst, with eyelids literally scratching my eyeballs.

Thyroid exam was negative. Something else is fishy.

that just happens over time, and it is unexplainable. there was also a time…for me, where i could no longer feel low blood sugars (6 months). needless to say, that time led to quite a bit of trouble…eh…

I assume according to your age that these are normal hormonal changes you are going through. On the other hand it does not hurt to cross check your meter - with the lab results of your doc or another meter.

But I have the same symptoms, and am a 27 years old male. It might be a sensitivity to caffeine, might try to cut out coffee for a while.

Thanks you guys. I have a doc. appt thursday so I’ll mention it. But I guess I’m not the only one. Thanks

I know what you’re talking about. I’ve had the same sensation. I’m really thirsty and I’m sure I’m high but when I test I’m a cool 112. I don’t know why it happens, but I’m glad someone else has this anomaly.

I’ve been “tricked” before too and I’ve not been at this long enough to have become desensitized to highs or lows (only t1 D since June 2010). I just chalked it up to the fact that one’s body is just mysterious… But then if you’ve read some of my recent posts you’ll realize that while I’d like to know what is going on, after a certain point if there is no satisfactory and decisive answer to the question and overall I’m functioning and feeling good, I refuse to conjecture anymore, lol!

Nevertheless, I hope you find out what it is, particularly if it’s something you need to know to be healthier.

I know that feeling. I test now when ever I feel strange just for the hell of it. Cant hurt to know where I am. For me in 25 years in and luckily still have sensitivity to highs and lows.
As for causes, salty food can make you parched or just not enough liquids in a day. As Holger said, hormonal changes could be a cause. Good luck finding out whats going on.

Definitely a good idea to mention it to your doctor. Let us know if you learn anything new!

I don’t think that I ever felt my highs until I am over 300 mg/dl (around 16.5 mmol/L) and usually for a couple hours. Could you tell if you were 180 or once it was higher? I’m surprised to see so many who feel their highs…

I feel lows, but not highs until they are really high!

I can only tell when I’m high if I’m about mid-200’s. If I’m just like 190, I feel normal, except random occasions when I feel it a little
