Hi guys I’m in a bit of a dilemma right now. I’m 31 weeks pregnant and my blood glucose has been fluctuating throughout which I’ve been self-monitoring and adjusting throughout. Now my gynae wants my levels at 5 or below and my physician says 10 or below is normal. My highest reading is at 8 currently. Both my gynae and physician now want to admit me and change my insulin - basically get me hypoglycemic as they can’t seem to agree what the goal should be. What about the risk to my baby she’s already 1.9kg. Any advice?
Rochelle2,
It is important that you read the HAPO study.
Rochelle2, no one here on this portal is in a position to give you advice on what is best for your baby. Arm yourself with the knowledge and ask your physicians. I hope the HAPO provide some direction for you.

Best,
Jo
I’d go with the gynae…they say true hypo is under 3, but 4 should be treated on insulin
this is normal BG http://www.phlaunt.com/diabetes/14045524.php
Fasting blood sugar under 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L)
One hour after meals under 140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/L)
Two hours after meals under 120 mg/dl (6.6 mmol/L)
it may be hard on the normal high carbs low fats. I’d also ask about limiting carbs and having more dietary fats for energy (I know it sounds wrong, but the gynae may be onboard to advise you on amounts)
