Cosmetically speaking?!

I just started using my animas ping pump and i have just a couple things that bother me about it. when i wear it on my waist band of my jeans it pulls them down a tad and then when i pull my tank top type shirt over it it leaves a big bump obviously. Its not looking so “sexy” so ive been putting it on my bra inbetween in the middle. but when i where a snug shirt you can see a lump also. i cant wear it on the side of my bra cause it looks stupid. Does anyone have any good ideas about concealing it.

Also. i have a hard time seeing the numbers and they move so fast!

what do you all find are the pros and cons of this pump?

thanks
karen

This is actually a light pump compared to the Cozmo which had the meter riding piggy back on it!
If you wear lots of dresses, you can put a bike short or something under.
I bought those waist pouches and the thigh thing (yes, I think that is what they called it) and I didnt end up liking them at all.
Mostly wear jeans anyway, and clipping it on it seems to stay really well.
The Cozmo on the other hand, quite often fell off and was swinging in the breeze!

I always wear mine exactly like you do. Yes, I sometimes have marks on my skin from the clip. Yes, sometimes you can see a ‘lump’, which I never bother trying to conceal. I think the ease of use of a pump plus all the other benefits, far outweigh a few marks on the skin or a lump under the clothing. I’ll have that and more rather than go back to injections.

99% of the time, it’s hooked to jeans, capris or shorts.

I have worn mine on the side of my bra, and I don’t care if it looks stupid, but I’ve found it a tad uncomfortable. I so rarely wear a dress that it doesn’t really matter.

Try a belly band or a “thigh thing” for dresses, There are also ‘covers’ you can get that make the pump hang down a little further when clipped to your bra, so that requires a looser top I guess. If you wear really skin-tight pants and tops, then you have to be inventive or not care if it’s seen.

I have tons of pump cases, but I rarely use them… only when I want to protect the pump or when whatever I’m wearing would end up pulling down if the pump were hooked to it.

You’ll get used to the numbers flying past… eventually you’ll know the point at which to stop pressing the button and you’ll end up near where you want to be.

Far as I’m concerned, there are no cons, only pros with the Animas, especially, for me, the big bright screen with big numbers I can easily see outside. I chose the Animas after many months of research, and I haven’t regretted the choice over 2 years later. If the Omnipod was available here, it might have been a choice in the mix too, but I think I still would have chosen the Animas.

I just put in my front jeans pocket; at a glance the bump looks like a phone so no worries!

Thanks Susi… i agree with you 100% about the numbers being the benefit etc… just sometimes i want to really conceal it. like if im on a date and i dont want to disclose diabetes yet. Or if Im doing a business presentation where I dont want the tube hanging out. On my pants (not jeans) it just makes me feel kindof sloppy. The best place i have found so far is on my bra, even with tank tops. I looked on line last night and theres a Kangaroo Pouch sports bra and a tank top. I will try that and I have to look into the Thigh thing… Thanks for responding and the positive resonse!

Hanna, when I put it in my pocket, it falls out and then hangs swings in the wind! and almost pulls the site out!! i love the benefits of the pump though.

I bought some bras that have a long line between the two cups. The pump fits in there without being seen. IF you google Sassy Back bras, you’ll find them. They are not cheap, and while there are others out there that are similar, none of the others work as well as these do. I love them!! I wear my pump there all the time and no one knows!!!

I find that with the hook it to your waist thing if I shift it around to the side, it’s less visible under my top.

hey renka! i have had my Ping since may (my very first pump!) and i love it! and yes, it does fall out of my jeans pocket, and sometimes when clipped to the outside of my waistband it is noticeable, but overall i don’t mind. i have found the perfect “thing” for when i wear a dress. click HERE to read about it. the other place i wear it alot, especially at work is in the front of my bra. i am not “big chested” (my gramma’s words LOL!), and it does stick out a little but i never have to worry about it swinging in the wind. with a nice dress blouse it is not noticeable.
you will get used to the buttons. i too, thought i would never get used to how fast they scroll, but after a few weeks you’ll have it down pat!

I have even put mine in my bra cup It worked very well since I use the meter remote most of the time.otherwise it’s on my side.

sue, thats where i have been wearing it mostly too. im going to look into those sassy back bras. thanks for the info!

thanks kim, if you can believe this, i only discovered today that you can use the pump also to enter your ezcarb instead of your remote! there is so much to learn, im getting the hang of it. thanks for your input. i have been mostly wearing it clipped onto my bra. im laughing at your “big chested” comment. i am big chested so it looks like a third boob! haha

Regarding the numbers moving fast:

The remote really isn’t great to use. Mine has had an error for about a month which make is unusable, and I haven’t missed it. I find the pump much easier. The numbers move much more predictably. Although for people bolusing their children, or for people who wear their pumps in hard to reach places, I’m sure they love it.

If you can get by without the carb/on board calculations, the pump also has a feature that let’s you bolus without looking. I use this almost exclusively now. You push that button next to the cap on the insulin vial.

hi, dx i actually just discovered that i can use the ezcarb feature ON my pump without the remote, i had only known about the little button that you mentioned until today! thanks!

I work an office job, so I’m wearing a lot of dress pants and dressier shirts, and I find that I clip my pump to my pants, but have it facing in (and locked of course), and it is a lot less noticeable that way. It barely makes a bulge that way. With jeans, I always just clip it to the front or back pocket (inside the pocket) and that works really well. With dresses, so far I’ve worn it clipped between my bra cups or clipped inside some boy short undies on my hip. I wish I had more real estate in the chest area, because that would make hiding the pump a LOT easier!!
