Covid Vaccine fall 2025 success and hints

In the complicated-thanks-to-RFK-Jr vaccine world of fall 2025 I just got my Covid vaccine!

Some hints:

1: In some states providers like CVS, Walgreens, etc are not offering Covid vaccines this fall due to “the current regulatory environment” (which is code speak for not wanting to get Chicopalypsed I guess.). A list of states for CVS: States where Covid vaccine available or not available at CVS

2: If providers in your state are not offering Covid-19 vaccines this fall, you may be able to get it with a doctor’s prescription. You may have to get it at somewhere other than CVS or Walgreens because in some states the pharmacies are not planning on stocking it.

3: Word of mouth is that many folks are making trips out of state to get their covid vaccine. For example in my area, you can’t get sign up for a Covid vaccine if you’re in DC or Virginia. But you can just across the border in Maryland.

4: When you sign up at for example CVS website in Maryland, you will be denied the ability to sign up for Covid vaccine unless you check “Yes” to the question “Do you have a condition that puts you at high risk for sever outcomes for COVID-19 Virus”.

5: While going through health record at CVS for the vaccine, my provider called up my pharmacy list and said “I see here you take Humalog… oh you’re a diabetic! Then you’re automatically qualified!”. She had a big smile on her face because that was easy. She then made the comment that the regulators are being very picky and she’s not allowed to give the Covid-19 vaccine to anyone under 65 unless thay have a condition on the list.

6: Vaccination went ahead smoothly and quickly.

So the short answer is: if you want a Covid vaccine in fall 2025:

*Check if your pharmacies in your state are even offering Covid vaccines. Consider traveling across state lines if not. Also your doctor may be able to prescribe and give you a Covid vaccine even if pharmacies in your state are not giving them but you would want to check with your provider if they plan giving Covid vaccines this fall.

*Bring some kind of documentation that you have diabetes like your pharmacy record, because they are actually cross-checking to make sure you qualify.

My condolences.

Thanks for the information. I have been protected with vaccines since 1954, and I am not about to give them up now. Why should we listen to a man who has NO medical experience, NO scientific evidence that vaccines do any harm to the general population, and (seemingly) NO or at least diminished common sense. I will get a Covid-19 vaccine and an influenza vaccine before I travel to my winter home in Florida. Once there, I plan to enjoy nature trails, little used beaches, and my backyard… staying away from other people as much as humanly possible. Protect yourselves, my friends.

Just got mine yesterday at CVS. I’m in Connecticut, and it was no problem to schedule.

Here in New Zealand I showed up at my local Woolworth’s pharmacy without an appointment. Pharmacist John looked up my NHS number and saw I qualified for a free vaccine as a T1D, and I got the shot. We’re currently using the monovalent vaccine which I think may be an older one, but that’s how things work here.

This is weird. I just checked online, and all my local pharmacies, including Walgreens and CVS in MA, have appointments available for the 2025-2026 Covid vaccine from Pfizer and Moderna.

I got both flu and covid vaccines a few days ago at my local Safeway. I had made an appointment and checked the relevent boxes about existing conditions (asthma, T1D). When I got there the pharmacist stared me down for a minute, told me covid vaccines were only available for people with certain conditions, and I agreed and told her I had read that and qualified. I didnt have to prove anything, but figured if they looked up my pharmacy record they’d find plenty of evidence, and if their records were somehow inaccessible surely the medical id bracelet and all the junk in my purse and my “Im not drunk, I’m just low” alert card in my wallet would help. And if they were still going to be unconvinced, I could always show off my collection of robot parts and show off the wrinkly tape job I did on my recent sensor. Ha! (Really, I probably would have just turned around if theyd needed more proof than my records and I would have tried again the next day at the other pharmacy accross town.)

It looks like several states/pharmacies who were originally on the “no covid vaccines for anybody” list, now have them generally available without much hassle.

I actually got the Moderna shot last week in Florida which is shocking enough. I’m not 65. I got it at a CVS about 20 minutes away from my house. The information about the vaccines isn’t clear, but then again, I’m in Florida.

My local CVS said the shots haven’t been approved yet so I couldn’t get it there. Another CVS said I couldn’t get it unless I had a prescription. Then my neighbor told me to go to the CVS where I got the shot. No issues. It was quick and easy, and the technician even gave me a $10 in store coupon, because I got a vaccine. LOL

Oh, yes, your experience certainly is “typical Florida.” Glad you could get the vaccine, but sorry that you had the run-around from the first two CVS stores.
