Cut the Crap 2 - The Insulin Receptor

I have spent the past few weeks working on this post in my free time. I have attempted to explain how the insulin receptor works and what it’s contribution to diseases are.

Click over to my blog for the full textof this very long post with lots of science, analogies and hopefully helpful information in understanding the insulin receptor and its specific actions in T2DM.

There are a ton of misconceptions and theories running through diabetic community about insulin. People love, loath and love to loath the hormone. Misconceptions are common in the lay public about medical and scientific fields and with the internet it’s only getting worse. Just like on here any a-hat can sign up for a blog and spew their phlegm, right or wrong, to anyone who wants to listen. That’s where this blog post comes in. I am going to cut the crap, just like I did previously with lantus and cancer, and provide the scientific rational regarding how insulin works, what the pathway does, how it is defective in type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and how the majority (but not all) of type 2 diabetics have created their disease because of their own actions. This review will also cover the functions of the insulin pathway, how insulin works and the hypothesized basic mechanisms of development insulin resistance…
