I will finally start my Omnipod on the 9th July yay! Although I am excited and hopeful after reading all the help and advice on here, I am still apprehensive and extremely nervous!
My sugars are rubbish at the minute due to stress! Mums in hospital with a broken hip so I’m constantly at the hosp and as always putting my diabetes last!
HELP!!!
Is there any advice or preparation I can do in the coming weeks before I start the Pod!!
All suggestions welcome xxx
When I decided to take the plunge w/ a pump (2008) I googled "diabetes message boards" and started hanging out (at the ADA boards...long story...I "moved" here c. 2009...) and learned about "Think Like a Pancreas" and "Pumping Insulin" and found them both very interesting, informative and helpful primers that sort of got my head where it needed to be. I was a bit leery of doing it and failing or giving up b/c it was tough but the books really made the lightbulb go on in my head such that I seem to have made a really smooth transition. I switched from R/NPH to a pump and some of what I've been able to do might be because the insulin is better or learning about carb counting but I think that pumped insulin is a much more reliable delivery system and that the more precise adjustments I can make to dosing has been very useful. I hope you enjoy your pump as much as I have! And I hope your mom makes a great recovery!
