Dawn Phenomenon Question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about the “dawn phenomenon.” I’ve heard the term a couple times since I got diabetes and it seems to be related to the body releasing glucose in the early morning hours to help prepare itself for the day. I have not experienced this at all in the last 12 years of my diabetes. BUT for the last two days between 4 and 5 AM my sugars have unexpectedly risen about 100 points. Is it possible for this to be a dawn phenomenon case that has just started for me? Until this week I’ve needed about 1/2 of my daytime basal at night because my body just handles itself so well when I’m sleeping. Suddenly I’m going to bed with sugars of 80 or 90 and waking up over 200. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Yes, hormones (those boogers,) would be my first thought as well.
