Dental surgery

I am going to have a tooth surgical extraction next week and I am astonished by the fact how this has happened since I visit my dentist often.
Anyway due to bad root canal treatment from previous dentists, a surgical dentist will remove my tooth but with surgery and not classical extraction. A maxillofacial surgeon will do the job. he will clean the cyst beneath the tooth , will extract the tooth and do the stitches on the jaw
Has anyone any experience on this surgery? that day I am thinking of having only my lantus morning injection and not any other insulin up to 4 o clock in the afternoon the time of operation. Dentist said it will take one hour.

Yes I have had it done, I would treat it just like any other day unless they have asked me to fast, Are they going to sedate you, did they give you a pill to take just before arriving, did they say someone would have to drive you home? My biggest concern would be...what kind of drugs are they are going to give me before, during and after the procedure? I would not let them sedate me, and I would never schedule a medical procedure late in the afternoon, always in the early AM for me. Just the stress of waiting all day would jack up my BG all day long and there is really no need for that!

Thank you for replying to my worries. I am a bit anxious as i will have a surgery for first time . AS far as i know, the dentist will give me the usual injection to numb the jaw and the teeth so that i wont be able to feel what he is doing (i hope that would be the feeling). Like every tooth surgery. I started taking antibiotics amoxyl 5oo, three times a day for four days just to be on the safe side although dentist said i do not need them as long as blood sugar is below 200.
It is true that morning is better for everyone especially for me as blood sugar is controlled better since i do not need any other fast injection without taking any food. But in Greece, dentists usually work privately in the late afternoon after 4 o clock in their private office as in the morning they do other things like working in the state hospitals or in the universities (recession you see). The dentist who is going to do it is associate professor in the university. I agree that morning is better, even the books claim it for diabetic persons.
Every morning i have blood sugar 105 for the last days. But dentist will do it afternoon. My only worry is not to have any hypoglychemia during the surgery, what i will have eaten from 10 o clock in the morning up to 3 o clock. I will not have any fast injection during day, even though these days only with lantus injection i have low diabetes 100. My dentist said that 130 blood sugar before the event is the best for him. I would say that higher around 150 is better for me. However, i am not a pc that works as some people think that i should do.
They have not given me any pill before arriving.
What is the usual practise in the States?

My biggest worry with this type of procedure is getting an infection. Persistent high blood glucose after the surgery raises the chance of an infection. The blood glucose numbers that you report sound very good, however.

I would keep a close watch on your BGs post surgery and don't let any high BGs linger. If your BGs run high and fail to respond to an insulin correction, tell your doctor right away. Good luck!

thank you Terry , i would keep an eye on my BG after surgery. I might need God's help for keeping me calm.
