Anyone using the Dexcom 7+ software Copilot Health Management Software? I am looking at writing a conversion program that will convert the Dexcom 7+ XML output to Copilot XML format so that it can be imported.
I downloaded a Abbott document that describes the XML format the Copilot expects and seen that the input has provisions for CGM. I use the Omnipod and it would be nice to be able to tie in the CGM to my reports. Copilot works with the Navigator but there is no support for Dexcom (seems senseless from an Abbott point of view being that Dexcom is a competitor) but I am a user and would like to have this feature. What would be nice is for the Copilot software to communicate directly with the Dexcom reciever. If Abbott would give me a copy of there ICD I would write a Dexcom interface to the software but I don't see Abbott coughing up the ICD.
We have developed import filters for OmniPod files (via CoPilot) and Dexcom files so we can slip stream both into one diary of Glucosurfer.org. Technically it should be possible to convert the XML file of the Dexcom to Eventtype=1, I5=1 for CGMS. The date field is a bit unusual but easy to calculate with.
I am quite sure that the amount of data can mess up some reports and graphics in the Abbott software. With mess up I mean that some people in the medical field expect to see only the calibration values to get an impression of your control. Others prefer graphical visualizations and the Dexcom will help to make these diagrams more useful - if the software can handle these huge amounts. It is worth a try and I would not wait for Abbott to integrate the Dexcom in the future.
So far so good. I was able to write a simple conversion program that takes the Dexcom 7+ export XML file and converts to the Copilot Health Management XML format. Because the Copilot XML has an input for trend arrows I computed the trends that Dexcom does not include in there output XML file.
The import process worked flawlessly. I had a total of 2563 records to import, from the Dexcom 7+, into the Copilot software. The nice feature wthin the Copilot software is the ability to turn off/on CGM records. So if you want CGM to be visible you select the option. This information will be included in all reports including the Logbook, the Modal Graphs, etc. I am extremely impressed how easy this process works. I will see if I can get a screen grab and include it somehow along with this posting.
I am excited that Dexcom and Omnipod are going to be coming together with an integrated approach so hopefully this will be just a patch until Omnipod rolls out the software update to the PDM.
I will keep updating this posting as to the status of the integration.
I’m interested too. I can do it myself but re-inventing the wheel is pointless and, if I did it, it would almost certainly be a Gentoo/Linux program therefore not of much use to most people on tudiabetes. Since Abbott have dropped the Navigator in the US there is presumably a good chance that they might consider integrating Dexcom support now; I can’t imagine them funding it (bad money after good), but Dexcom might do the work.
