Dexcom approved

So Today I got a call from EdgePark, (that is where ill be getting my dexcom through) They called me and told me that my insurance has covered it 100%. I have read soo many things about people getting denied and having to appeal, But for me it just went through with no problem. There is something wrong with that, I just dont believe it. I have to call back tomorrow to talk to someone to get my order all ready. But why does it seem so wierd? has it been this easy for anyone else?

We had same day approval on the dexcom cgm… We just love it… it is not perfect , no cgm is, but it makes living with diabetes just a little bit easier!

I was shocked when I heard I was approved!

=]!.

All they are waiting for is for my Endo to sign something off and they can get started with sending me my dexcom!

That’s what happened to me with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NJ…then a few months later they told me “reversal of the original policy to cover 100%”…retroactive to before the time I got the pump - so be careful, they just may decide to “reverse their policy” at any given time !!
I had to appeal their decision and after about a year managed to get approved.
Its so annoying…the GCM is so IMPORTANT.

Man I hope that doesnt happen to me! =[

Kenny,
do you know if your doc letter said anything about you having hypo unawareness? I’ve heard that people often can’t get insurance for CGM unless they are hypo unaware.

I do not have hypo unawarness.
They just needed to sign off a auth.

I’m still battling with Anthem on this one. Apparently, my doctor is totally wrong and because Anthem says it is not medically necessary… even though I have diabetes and cancer.

the keystone (blue cross) rep in southeastern PA says i need to have “at least a few lows a month.” how about a few a DAY? i have hypo unawareness so hopefully this helps me to get my cgm. i hate waking up at 3am with a bg of 40.

My first CGM was the Minimed and I actually got approval for that with no problem as well. I wish for everyone’s sake that ALL insurance companies would get with the program and cover this already!! I know more and more are doing just that but it shouldn’t be such a hassle to get approval for something that will help manage a condition. I did however incur a problem with them covering a new shipment of sensors … they (United Healthcare) originally claimed they were “disposable” and not “durable”. But after one or two phone calls, they changed their decision and approved them too. I now use the Dexcom and fortunately haven’t had any insurance problems with this one. Good luck and I do hope that you get it soon … I am very happy with mine.
