New to the Dexcom world, and curious what areas work well for sensor placement? I followed the instruction on the Dexcom set up videos and wore my first sensor on my stomach and had no problem. But in the video there was no mention of other locations it can be worn. What places seem to work well for everyone else?
I have been wearing mine on the back of my upper arm. No problems for me. I was on a cruise and a women was wearing hers on the top of her thigh and she told me she had no problems. I tried it there and I promptly got it snagged on something and tore it off.
Anywhere on the abdomen typically gets good results, even up into the sides on the rib cage. Back of the arm is a great spot as well, but you’ll need some help applying tape if your sensor starts to loosen. I’ve heard of people using their calf, but I haven’t tried that location yet. Good luck!
Back of the arm works best for me. I get two, sometimes three weeks out of each sensor. It expires after a week, but you just re-start it without removing it. It sticks better there than on the abdomen, and when the tape starts to peel I touch it up with Skintac https://www.amazon.com/Skin-Tac-Liquid-Adhesive-Barrier-SKIN/dp/B008IUA6DU/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1497011695&sr=8-2&keywords=skin+tac
Welcome to Tud, @Koso1213!
I happen to dislike much of anything attached to my stomach area… I get more irritation from infusion sets there, and the Dexcom sensors seem to fail more for me there, especially if I do much exercise. I usually put them on the side of my chest, near the arm pit. I tend to get good, reliable results there and, like @Christopher5, I generally get around 3 weeks from a sensor. (I don’t try for longer, but they’re usually working well enough at that point that I probably could.)
the top of my thigh (or slightly toward the outside on the top) worked the best for me! accuracy and comfort. shorts are a little weird with it though. Also, I have a little pinchable place above my abdomen, sort of right on top of the rib area that worked really well and was out of the way. back of the arm is great, just the placement is tricky
Awesome, thanks so much everyone! I just switched from my Animas pump to the Omni Pod and was loving the feeling of not having any sites on my stomach, so glad to know I have the ability to move Dexcom sites around as well.
I just placed one on the back of my arm. Third time in this general area. I haven’t attached the transmitter yet and I noticed some blood at the injection sit. Should I take it off and put a new one on?
I put many of my Animas sites on my arm… I hate stomach sites!
