Hi im also coming up on my 1 year anniversary for type one. I was diagnosed August 16th, 2008, the day before you.
Wow, I was just thinking about this. My “D-day” is actually today. August 13, 2007. So the big 2 year mark! I didn’t really think much about it last year, but I have really started getting more “into diabetes” (as in learning more, and having to control more) recently. So I think I will CELEBRATE today as yet another beginning to the rest of my life. With diabetes, its struggles, and all. It is my life
Happy D-Day to you too!! Celebrate your life no matter what, now you just have one more excuse to!
xo, claire
Congratulations to everyone on their upcoming diabetes anniversaries!
My 12-year diabetes anniversary is this Sunday, August 16th. My husband knows what a big day it is for me and always makes me a card or buys me flowers. We usually go out for supper, too, but since I’m going for my A1c soon, I don’t want to risk the bad blood sugars. We’ll celebrate later in the month.
On my diabetes anniversary, I make a rough estimate of the number of finger pricks and needles I’ve had since I was diagnosed. After 12 years, I estimate over 26,000 finger pricks and over 18,000 needles. And zero complications! ( :
I was diagnosed on August 17th, too!
I don’t celebraite the day, i actually get depressed, i celebraite my A1C every three months
Well… tomorrow is the day. And, I don’t really feel like asking my family to “celebrate” with me, or do anything special. So I’m just going to remember. Write something depressing on my facebook page (lol). You know… that kind of stuff. Thanks for everything you guys shared!
My 11 year anniversary is coming up on September 23rd (1998).
I was thinking the same thing: what to do to celebrate?
Usually I think about my D day anniversary for a few weeks before, but on the ACTUAL day, I end up forgetting- or maybe it’s emotionally “checking out”?
I was thinking about getting a manicure or something? Maybe going for a run?
Not really sure.
Maybe I’ll just take my fiance out to dinner.
hey there,
mine was early january 2003. so im coming up on my 8th ann. my girlfriend always makes something special for me. its really nice to come home after a long day at work, to some thing and one special waiting to celebrate your special day…
Ok Peter, I posted it Mon eve
I got around this problem by forgetting the actual day of my diagnosis. I know it was late July of 1997. I think it was a Monday, but I’m not sure. I love the movie “Forrest Gump” and so I always like to say, in my best Forrest Gum…P voice:
“I got the diabetes on a Tuesday.”
(even if it was a monday…
I don’t do anything special to celebrate/mourn it. I just keep on keeping on.
Best wishes for you in your 2nd year with Big Brother D.
Cheers, Mike
Yes, that day is something we tend to remember and perhaps celebrate or at least commemorate in some way. I had it rather easy to remember when mine was, since it started the morning of my Mom’s 39th(?) birthday in 1956. SO we celebrated together sort of while she was still living. Of course I really messed up her birthday, and the next 2 days while my newly hired pediatrician tried everything possible to get my electrolytes back to normal. Mom and Dad were called in for a death watch, but Dad was told to talk to me to keeep me anchored. He did so for a long time, then I opene d my eyes and starte life anew as a diabetic.
