I was just curious if everyone gets a full 3 days out of their pods?
I do. I have the alarm set to go off 1 hr before it will turn off. I usually wake up to that, and change it within the hour. The only times I’ve not made it the 3 days, is once when I had a painful site, and a few times this will happen: i wake up really early one morning and change my pod early… because i have to leave the house. then, 3 days later, i’ll have to wake up really early again to change it. instead of this happening, i just change it the night before. laziness, lol.
and, running out of insuling is NEVER a problem. i don’t know how much of you actually use all of the insulin. but, i only fill it with 100 units. after a full 3 days, i’ve usually only used 60-70 units.
Wow! I use that per day! That’s why I was wondering. I know everyone’s differant-I was just curious! I feel like i’d still do the pod even if I had to change it every other day. It’s still nice to take care of it and not worry about it again. Unlike shots.
I use all three days. I would hate to use less!
I use it for all three days. Usually change it between 6:30am - 8 am. My alarm beeps an hour before I need to change it.
Especially when I have to go to work and leave the house at 7am. I have been told to change it in the morning, not at night. This way if anything goes wrong - you’ll be awake and able to know about it.
This means getting up early on days when I don’t work - so I change the pod and go back to sleep.
Last week I was at work and the Pod started to feel really painfull. I had to take it off. I had insulin and syringe with me - so I took my blood every hour and kept shooting small amounts of insulin.
Keeps my BS under 135 from 10am to about 5:30pm - when I got home -and put on a new pod.
It was then that I realized that the Belt buckle attached to the slacks I was wearing had been pushing the pod when I sat down - thats what caused the pain…
From now on I will carry an extra pod
I usually do. The only time I don’t go the full 3 days is if the tape starts messing up or if my glucose starts rising and I can’t get it down.
I get three full days 90% of the time, using between 120 and 140 units.
Emily,
Do you realize that you can actually go an extra hour (or even several) beyond the recommended change time? The pod will continue to deliver insulin for at least 8 hours beyond (I’ve tested that myself), I’ve read as long as 12 hours. As long as there is insulin in the reservoir, it will continue to pump away.
So don’t be afraid to leave it on an extra little bit when necessary.
Hoosiergirl, I was using about 90 units per day on shots – Novolog and Lantus. I started the pod thinking that I would have to change every two days. I am using Novolog in the pod. To my surprise, the efficiency of delivery that the pod provides over long-acting insulin has allowed me to decrease my total units/day to about 55-60 on average, so that with the 200-unit capacity of the pod, I can go three days between changes. My A1C also dropped from the low 7’s to 6.
Great to hear! Thanks so much for responding.
I have always gone 3 days. However, recently I have noticed that I’m not getting good control by doing so. Maybe the insulin just doesn’t hold up well that long. Also, one of the members recently discussed getting hard places or scar tissue under the skin that don’t absorb well. With that in mind, I have gone to 2 days.
I end up changing it really late at night because I procrastinate with everything.
I like to guzzle my insulin and not just take my time and sip on it. I normally get 2 to 2 1/2 days on the full 200 units. I did go the full 3 days on this last pod though.
Cheers Hoosiergirl
So far, I have gone 3 days. I have only been on it a little over a month though. I fill with 180 units of insulin and rarely waste more than 5 or 10 units.
I fill my pod with about 140 units and go the whole 3 days. Love the pod
Shoot, I push mine out as far as they’ll go, almost to 4 days. I’ve never had a problem with site infection, and I’m not sure my new insurance is going to cover pods, so I’m using every minute I can get out of every one.
I change my pod every other day. I fill it with the 200 units. If I want to use a sauna, or hot tub while on vacation, I might change it every day, and put less insulin it it so I do not waste any insulin. Sometimes, if I am really good, I can go the full 3 days. I think it depents on how long it takes to use up the 200 units.
Wow, you use that much insulin?! What is your IC ratio and bolus rate?
I change my Pod’s every 3 days. I only fill it with 125 units of insulin and I don’t use it all.
I go exactly 3 days between the pods. I fill it with 100 units, and I use about 60-70. I change it when the alarm goes off.
