after a scan showing baby was ok on Thursday, I have now had a dramatic drop in insulin since yesterday.
yesterday I went out for a brunch, had taken my long acting. Ate and was about to bolus but realised I’d left the short acting at home. Freaking I finally tested. BS was only 89. Unheard of after what I’d eaten.
Anyway, numbers were all pretty low yesterday. Woke up this morning to 80, which is great and did not take any basal or bolus and my numbers have all been in the range of 80 -110 so far today. Granted I’ve been eating very low carb.
(normally I take 14 units of Humalin-N in the morning and 9 at night, and anywhere between 3 and 10 units of humalog to cover meals depending on how much carbs I eat).
Have other experienced this? I hope it’s normal. I really want this little one to be ok. How long did the lows last?
I guess I just keep testing and see what happens in the next few days… I’ll skip basal for a bit and just use humalog in case numbers start going high.
I was on a decrease all the way until week 21. Geez, if I can remember right, before conception I was like 40 units a day, and by week 21, I was down to 31 units. Now I’m in the 70’s per day at week 30! Everyone is a bit different, but it is quite normal to have lows in the first trimester.
My lows didn’t start until week 11, but everyone is different. I am on a pump, so I decreased my basals fairly slowly at first. The crazy thing is that I’ve always had problems with rising blood sugars from about 3am to 10am, but that problem has virtually gone away to the point that my basal rates are fairly flat throughout the day.
Hoping this will continue for a few weeks yet - just at 16.5, and I’m enjoying the lower blood sugars! I’ve even been able to eat a few no-no’s (for me, anyways) like pasta without any problems.
It’s normal to have to majorly decrease your insulin in your first trimester when baby is developing and to experience lots of drops right up until about 16-18 weeks when it flips around and you increase steadily until about 34 weeks where you either plateau or start to decrease. Ahh, the joys of diabetic pregnancies ;o).
I ran low for most of my pregnancy. It was the worst for the 1st trimester, I couldn’t seem to keep it above 70 for the longest time. (Not fun, when your dealing with morning sickness and really really don’t want to eat.) 2nd Trimester was the best. I had the least amt of lows then. 3rd trimester started out good, then I started having more lows toward week 37.
