kennedy had a complaint of sensor pain this morning, upon awakening, at the insertion site, she lifted it up just a bit and let it go, and this seemed to help. we had the afternoon of some ??? and the little hourglass thingy, so we restarted it, but after an hour of initial good readings, we again got the ??? so dex is replacing the sensor...
I am curious if the sensor was touching her muscle rather than the fat, if this is the reason for the ???
Does anyone else see sensor pain ( thin folks ) correlate with the ???
Curious??!!
best, natalie
Wish I knew what causes the ??? Hope someone will have an answer. Also, I don't know what the hourglass thingie is!
In my experience the ??? is almost always a sensor issue - sometimes they are bad out of the box, sometimes things happen to them as it seems in this case.
Be careful of sensor pain (especially if the Dex is still working OK) - I got a staph infection at the sensor site last year and it was not a good experience.
Thanks Chris, good thought! Unlike the pod, where we have a clear view of the site, you have no view of the dex site!! So insertion pain could easily be an infection!! How did you end up diagnosing? Was that pain different?
Hi Natalie,
So the sensor went in that time with no pain at all, but what happened was before the seven days were up, underneath the sensor became sore and very itchy. After about the 5 day mark I removed it - the hole where the actual sensor wire goes in was all red with red around it. I cleaned it up and kept an eye on it. The area grew larger under the surface and became a lot worse - that was when I went to have it checked out. That's when I found out it was Staph. Unfortunately because it was deep (most likely from the sensor wire depth), they had to cut and forcibly drain the site, then they put a wick in it and I had to let it drain for several days. Definitely not an experience I am anxious to repeat, nor do I want any of you to either!
Disclaimer - for some reason I am prone to Staph, I don't know exactly why - I have had smaller skin versions in the past - so I think this is not common, but definitely something to watch - especially if you have the sensor in for 14 days or more like some people do.
