Dry Mouth

Hi everyone,

I had constant dry mouth not realizing it was yet another sign I was ignoring of diabetes. Now I’ve been on metformin for a month and byetta for less than a week and I seem to have the opposite problem. Is this how the mouths of non-diabetic people feel? I feel like I’ve constantly got some extra saliva built up in my mouth. Any one else experience this?

On the plus side I have lots more energy and am dropping excess pounds every day so a little extra saliva is perhaps worth it.

That sounds like another of the many peculiar Byetta side effects.

Dry mouth isn’t a diabetic symptom unless you were urinating so much you became seriously dehydrated.

If you haven’t already visited it, I’d recommend the Byetta blog at http://diabetes.blog.com/1181902/?page=last#cmts

There is a ton of information about Byetta on that site, and a summary page can be found at http://www.diabetesmonitor.com/m60.htm

Hmm. Dry mouth was a serious problem with me before diagnosis - perhaps a type 1 thing, insofar as I was losing a LOT of water (and sweating for Britain in our hottest summer forever!).

Me too. I was thirsty all the time. I would drink a liter of water and still have a dry mouth. Thank goodness that’s over!
