Anyone ever experience the ??? during very prolonged exercise? This weekend was my yearly climb up Mt. St. Helens. I take a Boy Scout troop up to the summit of the volcano every fall. This year I was looking forward to using my CGM to help me control on the way up. It’s about 4~5 hours of very heavy work. Soon after starting the climb, I got the ??? and they would not clear. I tried shutting off and restarting the receiver several times with no luck.
However, once I reached the summit and cooled off a bit, it started working again and continued to work for the climb down and the rest of the day. I am not sure if it’s a coincidence or if it has something to do with the high level of exercise?
I’ve had the ??? show up during multi-hour runs and during a sprint tri, but that is the exception rather than the norm…and like you, it seemed to reset at some point along the way.
This happens to me a lot on hard bike rides or nordic skiing. Then it may start working again like you said after you slow down. I hope this is something that the next generation of CGMs will work better with.
Yes, I find with a lot of exercise, I get the dreaded ??? Apparently it is because of dehydration (or at least that was what someone told me). Annoying, I know, especially for people who do a lot of heavy exercise
I have run into these dam ??? and unable to reset. I end up swapping out sensor. They also seem more likey to occcur when sensor near end of life.
Once I tried stopping aND RESTARTING SENSOR - 2 (HOURS) NO SUCCESS. My guess is that software sucks.
Folks who designed this stuff need to be sent out in battle scene in an ancient tank with an M1ABrahms shooting at them.
There should be some way to allow a special mode to enable the sensor to limp till one can get a new one placed without hard 2 hour and stupid delay’s. The tough ■■■■ - I am out here and stop is unacceptable in a piece of medical test gear.
Ok guys - this is probably not the norm but… I have used a different CGM for about 4 years. It started with a few issues of attaching to the body when doing exercise, but we worked that out. I just completed 12 days of cycling in 35 degrees and 90% humidity. If you know how to keep the sensor on and use an Omnipod with the same effect - I had no hypos or hypers over any of my races.
