Fatigue after recovering from major low

Two days in a row earlier this week, my blood sugar crashed. (And I know why - whole other story.) Now, I don’t feel symptoms of hypo unless it’s really low - like in the 30s. (I spent 2 days the week before with average blood glucose of 70. Didn’t feel a thing.) These two days, I felt it really, really bad.

Obviously, I took proper steps to correct and all that, but I noticed that when I stabilized I was completely out of strength. Both times. Blood glucose was okay, so it wasn’t hyperglycemia-induced fatigue.

What causes this?

I don’t know the cause, but I know the feeling. Anymore “low” for me is 60 to 70. Sometimes it wipes me out and other times not so much. It seems like the worst ones are when I wait too long to eat. Some times I just feel a little hungry but not low. Only to find I am in the low 70’s or lower. Generally I can grab something quick with a few fast carbs and then some protien and fat (peanut butter on whole wheat, cheese). If I sit down and have this snack I normally don’t have an issue. If I ignore my body I will most likely have a few unpleasant hours before I feel better and probably fall asleep for a while.

I feel really tired after I have a low, too. I don’t think of 70 as that low, and I don’t really feel the 70 either. I think after you are stabilized at 80-120 for a while you will feel the 70 or lower again. Make sure you eat if your BG is 70 or less.

i bonk after lows its natural.

i think your body became tolerant during your low weeks and got used to the 70 avg. id keep my sugars in normal range for a while and see if it passes

I don’t feel low in the 70s… the “low” feeling often doesn’t hit me until the 50s. I am usually tired when I am that low but it often goes away after my bloodsugar comes back up. I have noticed, though, that often I have a headache post-low. Often highs make me really lethargic.

I have this happen too and I’ve always attributed it to the stress the fluctuations puts on the body. If your sugar is low, your body is trying to compensate, conserving glucose and probably doing a whole lot of other things. I am really prone to rebound highs, where I go from 50 to 250 in a matter of a couple of hours. Those REALLY wipe me out.

I haven’t run into this. I hit 48 like 10 miles into a 17 mile run last weekend and just pulled over, had some Gatorade (from a vendor in Central Park, ok it took me a minute to decide between orange and yellow but well, you know…) and kept at it and was about 75 when I finished the run. I felt pretty good, a bit worn down but more running worn down than hypo worn down. Maybe it’s a form of denial but I just ignore it most of the time.
