FDA Approves Dexcom Software with Artificial Pancreas Algorithm

Ok - so here is some data from my first day with both receivers. The blue is my old one and the pink is the new 505. I put in a new sensor in my abdomen last night. When I woke up and tested, both cams read me lower than I was, but the pink was closer. The line for the pink is not as smooth, but I have no idea what that means. I will let you know how it goes over the next few days.

Hmmm. It didn’t upload the second pic. Well, here it is anyway

That's odd and not really impressing me with the update. Having the dots more jumpy doesn't help - especially when I'm patiently waiting to see if my sugars are starting to come down, and was usually content to see it drop 5 pts, but now it might jump back up 5pts on the next reading.

I think the new software is showing more what actually happens vs the old algorithm which "smoothes" out the data.

I think that's the case. Normally I like raw data - but in this case, the Dexcom had been much better at trends. I mostly want to know how quickly I'm going up or down. Unless it becomes super accurate, the raw data isn't actually very helpful.

My guess is that where the difference will be most evident is in the lower readings 60-90 which is where raw, accurate data per 505 will be most beneficial. If I'm at 55, I'd rather see that as a raw data point than have it show 80 with a downward trend...

lol... I have macs too and can't view my graphs but my cde uploaded it and said mine looked almost like a non diabetic, but to me it looks god awful with all the swings on the day to day dex screen.

hmm not sure if that was a compliment or insult. lol. we are passive, but not brainless. lol etc… etc… etc…

company of course is saying it is that the FDA has not signed off on the Canadaian side and other countries due to the diffrences between the algorithms. Makes sense to me but that could also mean that the company has not done the algorithms yet for other countries. I can wait, my dexcom is working as well as I can expect it to right now.

Meee, I can use both my Dex and Omnipod on diasend now, on my Mac. Diasend updated to 2.0 and now my pump works also, wooohooooo no more windows, bye bye. lol

all in one place on my mac, I’m lovin it.

Ok, so they have been trending identically over the past few days. The numbers are not identical, but usuall within 5 pts of each other until now. Again, the pink has the 505 software.

I screwed it up the first time. Now I gotta wait two weeks (which is as long as my sensors usually last). Lesson learned, I'll take advantage of the Dexcom helpers to talk me through it.

Looks like the 505 is significantly more accurate, although both trend lines are similar. I've had the same impression based on taking 10-12 finger sticks a day to gain confidence in the 505. Thanks for doing this test.

Thanks dishers,

What is Diasend? I remember hearing it mentioned somewhere in another conversation? I will look it up, I would like to see my graphs as a whole myself also.

I'm not sure if I will update the new system yet though.

diasend.com is a cloud based application to view your cgm, pump, etc… all in one place

Attached is real data comaparing 2.5 days of fingersticks (Omnipod Freestyle meter) with Dexcom results from the old and new software.

For this small sample of data, the new algorithm has a mean absolute difference about 2% lower than the old. (11.65% vs 9.25%)

However note that both versions of the Dexcom had occasional errors in the 20-30% range.

In once case, dosing off of the Dexcom instead of the fingerstick would have resulted in hypoglycemia.

ok, that's what I thought... I will check it out soon- thanks!

Can somebody post the SW# and SW Rev for the new 505?

I'm pretty sure I don't have the new software, even though I got a new receiver & transmitter about a month ago.

Would like to know for sure before I try to do the update.

My current SW# is SW10050 and SW Rev is 2.0.1.158

Thanks!

It would end in 505 if it was the update.

Oh ok, thanks!

Just got a new receiver with the new algorithm installed. For me at least, the new software is freaking amazing. In most cases, the glucose numbers are spot-on, I haven't had any erroneous low-glucose alarms in the middle of the night which was a common problem before, and the newer algorithm seems to react much more quickly to rapidly dropping glucose levels. In addition to all that, the new transmitters are much lower profile than the old ones. Really great progress from Dexcom.
