Finally well under control! :)

Well the latest tests are in...

a1c = 6.5!

That is down from 16.5 about 2 years ago. :)

I am a happy man.

Lloyd, VERY well done, congratulations! What a huge difference you've made in 2 years :) I'm happy for you.

excellent! what hard work you must have put in! you must feel great!

That is great news. Do the happy dance!

Just woke up and even looking at that dancing man is wearing me out, so I'll let Brian do my happy dance for me, but I'm dancing in my heart! Great achievement, Lloyd!

The greatest work I had was navigating the Medical Land Mines! The knee-jerk reaction by the local clinic was to put me on 5 different drugs!

Fortunately I was brought up to think for myself, ALWAYS question medical "professionals", get a second opinion if in doubt, and to DO YOUR HOMEWORK! :)

They wanted to put me on blood pressure meds. Expensive, and complete with side effects. Well, when your a1c is 16.5 you essentially have a saturated and thick sugar syrup running through your veins! My answer - daily low dose ASA! Inexpensive, OTC, minimal side effects, and not otherwise contraindicated for me. And DO NOT buy the 81 mg pills! Walgreens wants between $15 to $20 for a bottle of 500. If you buy 100 Regular ASA and break them into 4 pieces, then you have 400 doses for $1.24. :) (There is a sucker born every minute!)

That took care of the blood pressure in a matter of days. :)

Then I had to de-tox my body from all the sugar. And make no mistake, this took almost 1.5 years. I had to watch absolutely everything I ate. Sugar, Starch, and carbs were public enemy #1 during that time.

To help I take Chromium Picoloante (500 mcg) and Vanadyl Sulfate (10 mg) and 100mg Co-Enyzme Q10 every day. Chromium helps regulate. Vanadium assists your muscles in utilization of the sugars in the blood. I also take transit and re-arranged my route to make sure I walk close to 2 miles every day.

About 1.5 years ago I started taking Metformin. At first it did not help. Until, that is, the nurse let it slip how metformin really works! When you take metformin, it takes about 2 hours to start working! And yet, the instructions say take with meals!!!! So I out the kibosh on that. I take my metformin between 1 and 2 hours before meals! So my sugars go down, and eating brings them back up - instead of letting my sugars go UP and then trying to bring them back down!

SIMPLE!

My Dr. was not happy that I was not "following orders". However, when he saw the test results, he could not believe it. He refuses to recommend the instructions for anyone else. That said, as long as I have these numbers, he accepts that what I am doing works for me.

:)

And I do feel a whole lot better than when I was disgnosed! Thanks!

I love it!

Congratulations! I'm especially impressed because you haven't had the advantage of just taking a little more insulin to get the numbers down.

This just goes to show that you can't keep a good man down. I love the fact that you thought for yourself and took charge. Good work my friend
