I’ve been on here for about a year and it has helped me so much. I’ve discovered my diabetes (the autoimmune variety) in a non-traditional way, and as a result got to watch the progress slowly for the past 3 years of my endless honeymoon. In the past year, I have started taking short acting (Novolog) as well as the lantus to control my blood sugars and I can honestly say that my needs for novolog have gone up dramatically in the past few months (needs= tripled, but still relatively small amounts, considering).
I just got my A1C results back. 6.6
I’ve always had great A1Cs- 5.4-5.8. It’s not like I didn’t see this coming- this disease progresses and I knew it was only a matter of time till I was totally insulin dependent, so this isn’t shocking to see it continue. However, all I want to do is cry!
Can I get some warm fuzzy moral diabetic support, please?
I remember that I used to panick when my blood sugar was a little bit high. Then one day, I woke up with blood sugar above 400 and I knew that I was going to need to increase my insulin.
The good news is that increasing your basal insulin and carb ratios will do the trick! Adjusting insulin doses is not my favorite past time, but it is good to measure often and figure out the right doses with your doctor because bad ratios = bad blood sugar. And that’s no fun!
Also, have you considered a pump?
Oh, and if you want a "glass is half full’ kind of picture, during the honeymoon phase it is always a mystery HOW MUCH insulin your body is producing and the same dose might have very different effects. Now you have one less variable to consider!!
I was diagnosed with type 1 as an adult and I have found that my post-honeymoon insulin needs have been relatively consistent.
Hi Lane, I remember life before diabetes, and I remember the slick, easy year I had when my body was still producing a lilttle insulin… my first A1c was 5.7 and the doctor though I was a genious! no worries, that was 30 years ago. you can do it there are plenty of us sans c-peptide grieving the loss of good health is necessary so cry. I still do sometimes.
hey i’v e had a honeymoon period that has lasted me the past 6 years, it has only ended recently and it feels like i’m starting all over again… its only lately i’ve been experiencing my first blood sugar over 200 since diagnosis. its not fun my a1c’s have always been between 4.8 and 5.6, my most recent is 5.8 so i can tell some things are about to change
