Forgot to take lantus

Hi I’m a type 1 diabetic and forgot to take my lantus at night. I took half the dose this morning should I take half the dose at night time or the full amount. Thanks in advance

Possibly an opportunity to take half doses (twice per day) for a period of time and see if that works better for you?

For some people they find this to produce a more stable BG. For others no big difference and once per day is just as good.

I take 19 units altogether and my injection pen doesn’t do half units and I just took 9 this morning so don’t know what to do

I was prescribed Lantis at a research university 20 years ago. The doctors i worked with felt strongly that Lantis was not effective for 24 hours. Took half at breakfast, half at bedtime. With 19u, take 10 in the morning and 9 at bedtime. Bet it keeps your bg steadier.

I use Lantus once a day. I do not think it lasts a full 24 hours. I think it works about 20 hours for me. Close enough to 24 for me for now but I am considering changing to a newer basal insulin that does last a FULL 24 hours. I don’t want to go to twice a day with the Lantus by splitting it as I don’t want to do MORE injections. I do enough now with the fast acting insulin so I want to keep my basal to once a day. Also considering a pump in the future.

You have prolly figured this out by now but you can just split the dose, 10 am and 9 at night or vice versa. I split lantus and levemir but they were still very unstable for me. I’m on a pump now and will never go back to mdi prolly except for emergencies.

I am sorry that happened to u . When I was on lantus I used to forget the evening shot often. Not on it any more --on the pump

I take 40 u of Lantus and split it, 10 u at breakfast and 30 u after dinner. We did that to get consistent coverage. I hope you figured it out.
