Future of OmniPod

I just say a video on YouTube about the future of pods and them having a cgm built in the pod and the pdm. Any know anything about this?

Here's the link:

Thanks for the link, Josh. I thought that what they are calling the Future was going to be the next step…the integrated, one wearable device, one PDM. I guess the next step will be seperate GCM and Pod controlled by one PDM. We are fortunate to have the technological advances we do have…we’ll just have to be patient.

They could put it out now but the FDA won’t allow it for another 3-4 years

Excellent video and they are calling it the "artificial pancreas".

That is almost correct. I am in the Phase 2 study (I was in Phase 1 also which completed in November) at UVA in Charlottesville, VA, USA. It is with the Omnipod. Phase 2 begins for me next Tuesday, 1/4/2010, which is just the pre-admission check in. Phase 2 actually starts for me 1/27/2011.

Phase 3 will start later in the year, which I have been approved for also, which will actually be wearing it around for, I believe a month.

If anyone cares to know what the phases consist of just ask since I don't want to bore you with them here.

If the comoputer logarithum that they are testing in Phase 2 works correctly, then phase 3 tests out as doable then there will be some more extensive tests and then finally we can blame a 3-5 year wait on the FDA.

They told me when I started Phase 1 at the end of last summer that if everything went perfectly it would be 5 years, counting the FDA, but we know that won't happen.

I'm betting that the actual hardware has been designed but isn't ready for prime time...yet.

I've also seen maps showing the same research is going on all over the globe, not just in the US.

Hi Ron -

That's so cool!! I hope it goes well for you and the study. I'm a big believer in participating in these studies - I try to put Will in whatever studies they are doing for kids here at Stanford.

Happy New Year!

Susan

Hi Ron,

I'd be glad to hear about the phases and anything else regarding the study that you would like to share!

Thanks

Yes, Ron. Don’t hold back! Give us all the details. Anyone who gets bored can quit reading.
