I started using the G4 end of March and I love it. When I injected the sensor last time, the filament/wire stayed in the applicator and the sensor failed. Tech support said it happens sometimes because I may have detached the applicator incorrectly (without hearing two clicks). Has that happened to anyone else?
That is the first time I saw the wire part of the sensor. When I take my sensor off I have never noticed a wire that comes out with it, so I wondered what happens to the wire? I asked Dexcom support and the tech said the wire is so thin and is probably clinging to the bottom of the sensor. I will look next time.
This typically happens if you don't withdraw the collar all the way after you depress the plunger. Just make sure you pull the collar all the way back firmly before removing the applicator. Happened to me once.
Yeah happened to me first time I tried to insert a sensor. Like biomuse said, I didn’t pull the collar back all the way (newbie mistake) and then the sensor failed, of course. When I realized something was wrong, I went and looked back at the applicator, and sure enough, the sensor was still in it. And yes, the sensor wire is there, very thin, and lays almost flat, horizontal to the transmitter, when you pull it out.
So far with many sensor insertions, I have been lucky and managed to insert correctly and not pull the wire out. However, I always look for the wire when I remove the sensor from my body. Since I wear them as long as possible, I have had times where the sensor wire gets "stuck" and does not easily pull out and will detach from everything else, remaining in me. When this has happened, I use tweezers to gently work it out while using warm water to help get it to release.
