Does anyone know of any glucose tablets that do not have artificial flavors and colors? Do any exist and if so where would I find them? I find that glucose tablets work so much better for lows than any healthy type stuff like raisins however I do not like everything that is added to them…
I do not like the artificial flavors either so I use jelly beans. I get a different flavor every time I buy some.
I’ve never seen any. I use jelly beans, but they have artificial color & flavors also. Fruit has fiber which slows down the effect. I correct lows at home with honey, but not something that’s portable:)
I laughed one day at the pharmacy I asked for 3 packs of glucose tabs, she said what flavor do you want, HA, I said, I don’t even notice the flavor when I am Low, I am just shoving them in my mouth… She said OH, I am not a Diabetic:)… I guess not:)
I haven’t seen any without flavors…
I used to work at a health food store (think Whole Foods, only smaller), and we carried these little plastic straws that were filled with honey. They were just like a straw that you bite or cut the end off of, and they had lots of different flavors of honey too, all flavored with natural stuff. So, while they’re not glucose tabs, and I’m not sure exactly how much honey was in them, they are less artificial but portable too. Anyway, just a suggestion. Good luck on your search!
Thanks for info on honey straws. That would be great! I’ll look for them.
You can get pure glucose in powder or tablet form. I do not know where you are, but it is good to buy small pots - I have bought loads of them in a Japanese supermarket. Fill them with a teaspoon or two or whatever your dose usually is, then you can pour some water into it, give it a quick stir and drink. Or a box with several sugar cubes will suffice.
I’ve come to believe that they make glucose tabs with added stuff to make them taste “bad.” Perhaps this is to keep people from just eating them like candy. The key ingredient in glucose tabs is “glucose” usually called dextrose in food. If you look carefully at candy, you will find that smarties and sweet tarts are both made primarily with dextrose and are perfect substitutions for glucose tabs. They also cost a lot less than glucose tabs. Our fellow member member Scott Strumello is a big fan of smarties in quantity.
