I have been T1D for 17 years. I was on the minimed insulin pump from 2002-2009. They had a recall on my supplies which resulted me to go into a diabetic coma. I have been on insulin pens, since then. Lately, my body has been rejecting my long lasting insulin. I’ve always used lantus, and my endo switched me to levemir, and it’s still not working. I am looking at getting back on the pump. I see my endo on Tuesday. Now, I need help. A LOT has changed since 2009. Different kind of pumps, etc. I currently have the Dexcom CGM5 and I LOVE IT. So, id like a pump that can sync with my CGM? If they have anything? Which pump do YOU prefer? What’s the pros and cons of the pump options? I am a VERY active person, going to the gym 5-6 a week, and I do powerlifting. So, is there a pump that would fit better with that kind of lifestyle?
There aren’t any pumps yet that sync with the G5. I assume that Tandem and Omnipod will eventually be available that do that, but not yet. As to “active” – I think there are very active people using just about any kind of pump these days. You might prefer Omnipod because it’s “tubeless” and the pump itself (not the remote) is waterproof. They’re providing Glooko support for their pumps for at least “web integration” with Dexcom - they have plans for new releases sometime this year on the controller that may introduce further integration. The Animas pumps are waterproof as well, but have tubed infusion sites (Animas Vibe integrates with the Dexcom G4). The Minimed 530G has a low suspend feature, but for that to work, you’d have to use their CGM system. Tandem’s pump has a nice tough screen, though they currently only have one that integrates with the Dexcom G4, not the G5 yet.
