Good News from the Eye Doc

I went today to get my (overdue) annual diabetic eye check. I was plenty nervous, as my A1C’s haven’t been great.

After my cousin’s recent, horrific bout with a retinopathy-related blow-out, I feel like I got a great big “get out of jail free” card. ;0) No signs of retinopathy, degeneration or any other complications except the faintest whiff of age-related cataracts barely forming (we already knew about those from last year). My eye pressure was even down, from 18/19 the last time they checked, to 17/17 this time. WHEW.

He did one of those new laser scans of the back of my eye and it came up 100% clean and clear. Did I mention, WHEW?

Anyway, I will NOT be taking this for granted. I’m still working on dropping my A1C’s into the 5’s (maybe passing through the 7’s along the way) and this just gives me a sense of renewed, re-doubled purpose. I want next year’s eye check to be just as good as this one – no, better!

He looked me in the eye and half-barked, “Get that A1C down.”

I smiled a big, goofy smile and said, “Yes sir!” And I meant it, too.

That is Good news for sure. I know the relief that you feel. I’ll be 50 yrs. with the D this year and I still get a little nervous when I’m due to see my Ophthalmologist even though my sugars have been pretty Good… How Bad is that? And a WHEW when he comments that my eyes are still doing Good. Your pressure is Nice also. Just keep working at it and your A1c will be in the 5’s soon. I don’t know how some People do it. They can have an A1c around 12.4 and then be in the low 6’s in 3 or 6 months. They must stop eating. It took me years to get where I am. Anyways, Good for you Jean.

that’s great news good luck getting to 5

Congratulations!!

I feel your pain. I have to go next Friday. Last year the dr told me that the first time in the 8+ years I have been seeing him he noticed some diabetes in my eyes. He told me though that if my control improved over the next year that it might clear up. Wish me luck.

Thanks, y’all. It made me very happy!
