I went to see my new endo today and my new A1c is 6,3! I’m surprised it’s this good, because I saw some pretty ugly numbers during Christmas (not because of the food, but because of all the sitting around and doing nothing) and my recent cold. But that means there is still some room for improvement and I might manage something below 6,0 the next time.
And I noticed something really neat at the endo’s office. She has a huge chart on the wall that shows the monthly average of all her patients A1c’s. It goes back two years. Somehow each year the average is lowest in June and then slowly rises to reach its peak in the winter months. I guess it’s because people are generally more active in the summer. Christmas and all that delicious food probably doesn’t help either.
Anyway, my record now looks like this: 16,2 -> 7,8 -> 6,6 -> 6,3. Go, me! The 16,2 was my diagnosis and it’s almost been a year. Time really does fly. I’ve been so busy with my PhD that I barely noticed. I will definitely celebrate when I reach the one year mark in May, though. I think it will involve friends, bad zombie movies (my favorite kind), an obscene amount of carbs and possibly some Tequila.
